How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
It is made of aluminum and is the push rod used for the exhaust valve. Occasionally, the push rod in your engine can become damaged, and will need to be replaced before your engine runs at full capacity.
A bypass lever is located on the back of the frame, pull out on the lever to move the mower and push it back in before mowing.
A sure indication that the pushrod is too long is when it takes more than 1 full turn to seat the rocker past the zero-lash point. Though we have successfully run pushrods with more than 1.5 turns, more than 2 turns can actually hold the valve open once the lifter is pumped up with sufficient oil pressure.
You should always try to put the push rods back in the same spots and directions they came out, but nothing is going to happen if you don`t. It`s just best practice.
Use a ring spanner to loosen the locknut and turn the screw clockwise to decrease the gap, and the opposite way to increase it. When the clearance is correct, hold the screw with a screwdriver while you tighten the locknut, then re-check the clearance. There may be a self-locking adjusting screw with no locknut.
A valve that is not adjusted to the proper clearance could end up with exhaust gases leaking past the valve or worse engine performance. Either of those scenarios could end up costing you more money than getting your engine serviced by professionals.
Different manufacturers use various pushrod seat height lifters that affect pushrod length. Other variables include cam lobe base circle size differences. It`s not unusual to discover, for example, that the base circle diameter can change between the intake and exhaust lobes on the same camshaft.

Blades became disengaged — won’t engage
ANSWER : Sometimes the belt can jump off one pulley and cause the problem, follow the belt around all the pulleys and see if it came off one.there may be a belt loosening lever on the lh side of the mower deck, if so unlock it and reroute the belt around the pulley. If you need to replace the belt the manual has a good description on how to do it and should take 30 min with only a couple of tools.

My mower blades disengage when operating.
ANSWER : Not sure of your question, but if you mean, they start when you flip the switch and then disengage but the switch stays up.. you need to check two things. (1) The out put of your alternator, read the battery with a volt meter before you start it, then start up the engine and read the voltage again should be a higher reading with the engine running. 12.4 vdc with the engine off – 13.7 vdc with it running. (just an example). Next will be your seat switch. There is a switch under the seat if you are not sitting in the seat the blades should turn off. so the switch could be out of its socket, or broken.

Karcher 3.97M Short cycles after trigger is released.
ANSWER : Dear csdamman,
There is a valve called the spill-valve. It is often called the control valve. This valve activates the micro-switch. When the gun is released, pressure builds up and compresses this spill valve. At the same time it puts off the micro-switch. This will then stop the machine. Now when the spill valve is faulty it cannot hold compreesion under pressure so it starts de-compressing and starts the machine again. This goes on in a cycle as you explained. So you have to change the spill valve. If the spill valve that operates the micro-switch is part of the upper head,…then the whole head must be renewed. Myself I rarely service Spill Valves. The best thing is to renew it. From your explanation it seems that you did not take notice of this Spill-Valve. Infact when you mentioned Pressure Switch, I do not know if you are refering to the spill valve. If you are….then saying that the Pressure Switch moves and operates freely, does not mean that it is OK.
In certain machines in the outlet…there is a small valve, coloured black and red or green and yellow. This sometimes when faulty, it gives the fault you mentioned. Sometimes an inlet valve gives the fault you mentioned. But from my expirience it is most of the time that the Spill-Valve is the fault.

Fulltech.

Broken pullcord the pull cord on my cub cadet push mowersnaped and broken and we put it back in and know it wont wind back in
ANSWER : Yeah I got the same problem. My pull cord broke in the first season. On my own once the plastic cover is removed, 4 phillips screws, the cord housing is secured by 3 10mm nuts. Remove them and lift out the housing. On my own unit the spring had also slipped out of the mount on the shaft securing the assembly (another 10mm socket nut will loosen that) and I had to resecure that first, then wind it up before making the knot.. I used a Briggs and Stratton cord from another (truly dead) mower and have had no problems since then.
