When the deck is up all the way, the drive pulley and belt touch the deck. Doesn’t appear to be anything bent or broken.
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
The pulley in the front end has lost the bolt that keeps it in place. You can see in the pic that the pulley has slid down, the belt guides would be about where the pulley should be. It hasn’t fallen off completely b/c of the belts. But what do I know, I’m just a girl from Missouri. ??
How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
Check on how the belt gives way to your pressure; it should not be loose enough to give way more than a few inches. For mower belts that give way more than two inches, you need to tighten them according to the model`s manual.
Open or close the pulley to increase or decrease the diameter to the calculated size. Then tightly wrap the belt around the pulley again to measure the diameter to assure the right pitch has been achieved. After you`ve measured and adjusted the diameter to the required size, replace the pulley on the shaft.
The driven pulley is adjustable and the drive pulley is controlled by a mechanical action that will open or close the pulley based on rpm requirement. As the driven pulley is opened, the driven pulley will decrease in speed and the opposite, as the drive pulley is closed the driven pulley will increase in speed.
A belt that`s too loose on a pulley will cause slippage, which leads to heat build up from friction. This heat will damage your rubber belts and cause the belts to crack and break. A belt that`s too tight can add stress to your bearings and cause your motor to over amp, leading to motor failure.
The most obvious sign of a loose drive belt, though, is in its appearance and tension. A loose belt, simply stated, looks and feels loose. If this appears to be the case, you should have a mechanic adjust the belt tension so that it doesn`t come off and damage your engine or leave you stranded.
Variable speed drives sit between the electrical supply and the motor. Power from the electrical supply goes into a drive and the drive then regulates the power that is fed to the motor. Inside the drive the input power is run through a rectifier, that converts the incoming AC power to DC power.
As I mentioned previously, the simple pulley is a wheel and axle with a rope or belt looped around it. As the rope is tugged, the pulley turns. The force on the rope travels around the pulley to the other end of the rope, so the pulley changes the direction of the force.
