Your lawn mower turning over but not starting due to several reasons, such as a faulty or disconnected plug, a disconnected spark plug wire, a clogged air filter, or a contaminated fuel tank. A faulty carburetor, a dirty cutting deck, or a dysfunctional flywheel brake can also cause this.
A full gas tank and oil reservoir are the essential first steps when checking why the lawn mower won`t stay running, but the problem could also be a dirty filter, clogged carburetor, improper fuel mixture, or a dirty spark plug.
If your lawn mower battery won`t hold a charge, verify connections are clean and tight first, then connect it to the charger. If it isn`t fully charged within 8 hours, your battery is dead and you`ll need to replace it. If your lawn mower battery does charge fully, the charge should not drain if it is not in use.
A loose connection makes the battery work harder than it should, thereby draining it of power quickly. Clean the corrosion, tighten battery connections and check the battery case for cracks, advises M&D Mower and Appliance.
If a mower is hard to start, it may be the result of a dirty carburetor and/or a clogged air filter. Use a screwdriver to remove the carburetor and clean any dirt out of it with a rag. Clean the air filter or replace it if it`s disposable.
The Spark Plugs

The engine`s spark plugs get worn down and damaged over time due to use. A faulty spark plug can cause hard starts, low fuel consumption, and reduced performance. Spark plugs can be one of the first things you check when your tractor performance is off.

Battery goes dead over night – Toro 42'' Zero Turn Lawn Mower Trailer Package Deal ()
ANSWER : First thing to do is find out if it’s the battery or the mower. Disconnect the battery and leave it overnight. If it’s dead in the morning, you need a new battery. If not, you either have a charging problem (not likely if the battery isn’t dead after using the mower) or you have a current drain.

Battery?, wiring?? Had a recent problem with blades not engaging. I have had also had a slightly older issue of battery not holding charge so i have to boost or jump start mower. I went out and bought brand new battery and after one usage it would not hold charge and blades will still not engage. Would the issue related to the battery effect the engagement of the blades???
ANSWER : If your Alternator didn’t charging the battery, even though you brand new battery will not last. So there is two possible cause, 1) Your Alternator is not functioning. 2) there is a wiring problem that causing your battery to discharge easily, but you check it after you switch off the key remove the battery negative terminal then touch it back to batt term. and see if there is little blue spark, if does your wiring system got problem. If not, so your Alternator do not charge the battery.

I have a B&S 16hp electric-start engine. Battery was dying for long time, finally replaced. Can’t seem to get it to even turn over now. Checked battery- good. Even assumed I was wrong and new battery bad, and jumpered to auto, still no turn over AT ALL. What could be bad? Solenoid? Starter? Also, I put voltmeter leads on input voltage from battery to the frame/ground, 12.7VDC, but when I turn key to run (not start, just run) voltage drops to 0vdc. This is a Bush Hog Trail Hunter ATV with a Briggs & Stratton 16hp Model 303447 Type 1348-E1 Code 04113011. I even went to a bigger batter with more CCA than before. It went for a long time with a weak battery- could it be that the starter or solenoid or something was worn out after a year of weak battery and excessive starting? Any direction on what I should test, or replace would be appreciated! Thanks, Jeff
ANSWER : I would check the solenoid first if that doesn’t work check starter also what you can do is turn the key on & run jumpers from car or another battery ground on engine block of the mower & take the positive & touch the bolt that the positive wire goes to on starter it will cause a spark but if starter turns over & starts then it the solenoid

I started mower in tall grass. It started up and immediately stopped. Could not get it started. Replaced battery. Charged 12 hours. Still will not operate. Green light is on. Noticed the blade seems to turn too easily if I spin it manually.
ANSWER : After charging the mower, you must place the safety key in the mower before it will start. On models that have a bail handle, be sure to pull the bail handle back to the mower handle before engaging the start lever. If your mower still does not start, remove the safety key and ensure the bail and start lever are in the “off” position. Then firmly re-insert the safety key, pull the bail handle to the mower handle and engage the start lever.Note – It is important that the bail and start lever are returned to the “off” position before inserting the safety key.
Give it try, if it still will not operate you may have to take it in for service.
Good luck, let me know.

Battery not charging. Light on charger is red for charge…it’s plugged in properly?????
ANSWER : Battery is bad.

My Z5426 won’t start. When I pull out the choke and turn the key, gas starts leaking out of the exhaust system just before it gets to the muffler. Last time it did start, it ran really rough. So, I turn off the engine and then tried to restart and that’s when I noticed the fuel leak.
ANSWER : Maybe bad fuel, fuel line leaking, flooding of the carburetor, since it did start and ran rough I am assuming that the gas was left set and more then likely this gummed up the carburetor, you will have to clean/rebuild it. If you have a can of carburetor clean you may be able to spray that into there and clean it up, I would not choke it to start it as it sounds like it got/is flooded/ing. Good Luck Tim
