The gap should be 0.028 ~ 0.031 inches (0.7 ~ 0.8 mm).
The HRX537 was released in North America as the HRX217 in March 2004.
The HRX217 series uses Honda`s GCV200 engine, which is a nice upgrade from the GCV170 engine on Honda`s HRN216 series. They also all feature the brand`s 4-in-1 Versamow System with Clip Director. The Versamow System can mulch, bag, and side-discharge your clippings, as well as shred leaves.
A Honda HRX 217 lawnmower`s oil capacity is 0.58 quarts or 18.6 ounces of 10W-30 API (service category SJ or later) four-stroke, automotive detergent oil. Unlike with a car, you won`t need an oil filter to change the oil in your mower.
Blade bolt torque: 36 ~ 43 ft-lb; 5.0 ~ 6.0 kg-m (49 ~ 59 N·m) If you do not have a torque wrench, have an authorized Honda servicing dealer tighten the blade bolts before you use the mower.
The gap setting is different for each vehicle but most are somewhere between 0.028″ and . 060″. Consult the owner`s manual or Champion ® catalog to find the recommended setting for the vehicle you`re working on.
Standard blades are the ideal choice when mulching the grass clippings may not be an option. Many professionals prefer to bag the clippings for a cleaner looking lawn. Bagging clippings will also remove leaves and debris from the lawn, leaving behind a well-manicured cut.
A long-lasting, 5.6 horsepower-class engine, the one pull start, four-stroke GCV200 features overhead valve and overhead cam technology.
This premium residential engine is the lightest in its class, incorporating Honda`s Advanced Four-Stroke Technology. This means the HRX217 will run powerfully and quietly, with minimal fuel consumption – good for you and good for the environment.

Mower start up and runs, but starts to cut back, and smokes just a little bit. The mower stops smoking when it throttle up. It will continue to run but not at full throttle. I can hold a finger gently over the fuel primer bulb and it will throttle up for a small time.
It sounds like she’s being deprived of the correct fuel / air mixture due to a dirty carburetor (the biggest problem with mowers when gas is left to sit for a period of time). If you do not know how to take the carburetor apart and clean it thoroughly, then I suggest taking it to the local shop (hardware store or mower shop) and having it tuned up. It’ll probably be just fine and worth the money. Hope this helps and good luck.James

Lawn mower cranck but wont start…
Since you already checked for spark and air I would drain all the fuel out of it and check that fuel for water. Over time some lawn mowers end up with contaminated fuel. You can see the water sitting on the bottom of the fuel if you let it stand for a bit in a small plastic bowl.
Be sure to empty and dry out you fuel can as well. Especially if the mower stopped running right after a refuel. Which is a good sign your gas can is contaminated too.
