The carburetor might be clogged. A clogged carburetor is often caused by leaving fuel in the chainsaw for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the chainsaw engine to stall.

Lean Air/Fuel Mix
Your automobile needs air and fuel to start and run and it`s the carburetor`s job to mix it. If there is too much air in the mixture, the engine isn`t getting enough gas and can stall. A mixture that is high on air and low on fuel is called a “lean” mixture, and it will affect your engine performance.
Chainsaws, like all small petrol engines, are fitted with a fuel filter which is used to screen dirt and debris from the petrol and prevent it from entering the engine where it could cause damage to the chainsaw.
Well as long as the lack of that fuel filter doesn`t cause leaking at the inlet connection, then yes it will run fine …. but only for as long as whatever the filter might have caught and preventing it from clogging jets and passages.

If your saw idles fine, and then bogs down when pressing the throttle, then adjust your `H` screw by unscrewing. This will increase the amount of fuel to the carburetor under load. Without lubricant, the speed at which the chain moves over the chainsaw bar can cause some serious friction. A slowed-down chain and excessive fuel burning mean there`s a lot of friction between your bar and chain, which means a lot of heat is being produced that could do major damage to your saw.
The letters on the screws represent High (H), Low (L) and Idle (T). The H screw regulates the Air/Fuel mix during high RPMs, while the L Screw does the same during low RPMs. The T screw regulates how much fuel is sent to the carburettor while idling until the throttle is pressed.
If the carburetor is clogged, it may only work with the choke engaged, which is not a good way to be running your engine. Cleaning the carburetor and replacing some of the internal parts with a new carb kit is a great way to get your carburetor running properly again.
There are three main reasons for a chain to come off: Incorrect bar and/or chain for the saw; check to be sure that you are using the proper chain pitch, gauge and number of drive links to match the guide bar. Chain not properly tensioned; It is normal for a new chain to stretch and require frequent adjustment.

ANSWER : Under neath the carby is a single brass bolt, undo it
that one bolt is a multi jet, find four holes use a fine pin and carby cleaner ,hint one is at the top were the thread starts , one is in the inside center and two in the sides

Where is the primer ball
ANSWER : It may not have a primer ball. If it does, it would be attached to the carberator. If it starts, but won’t stay running, that could mean your carberator needs to be cleaned/serviced.

I have a 550 serice that starts but wont stay running it only about 8 months old
ANSWER : Sounds like you will need to clean your carburetor.Be sure to use compressed air to blow out all the fuel and air passages.Be careful when blowing out the passages because there are sometimes small rubber type seats in the bottom of some of the passages.Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor a few times, and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.Keep in mind that the float for the carburetor must be level when you go to reassemble the carburetor,or as directed in the repair instructions.If the mower/weedeater is over a year old, then I also recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit,because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, You will first seat the jet screws but before you do you will count the number of turns it takes to seat the jet screws. Then later will be able to return them to their original position. Be sure to mark in down for later reference that way when you go to put the jets back in, you know how many turns they were in/out to be back in the orginal position.
