How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Check the spark plug wires: Make sure that the spark plug wires are properly connected to the new spark plugs and the ignition coils. If they are not connected properly, your vehicle won`t start. 2. Check the battery: Ensure that your car`s battery is fully charged and in good condition.
Riding Mower Clicks but Doesn`t Crank

When you hear a click as you turn the key, a weak battery, bad starter solenoid, faulty wiring, failed starter motor or a seized engine could be the cause. This DIY troubleshooting will help you figure out what to fix.

One of the first symptoms of a problem with the ignition module are engine performance issues. If the ignition module fails or has any problems it can lead to performance issues with the vehicle, such as misfires, hesitation, loss of power, and even reduced fuel economy.
A dirty or fouled spark plug can cause your lawn mower to not start. It can also work itself loose, causing issues. If the spark plug appears to be seated correctly but the engine doesn`t start, a new one may be in order. For a few dollars, this easy fix can get your small engine working again.
Bad Spark Plugs

If the engine holds compression well, and the fuel system is working correctly, but it still won`t start, that tells us that your car`s spark plugs may not be working. The spark plugs ignite the air/fuel mixture inside the engine`s cylinders. It`s the resulting explosion that actually powers your car.

A Bad Crankshaft Position Sensor

The crankshaft position sensor monitors the position and rotational speeds of the crankshaft. Without the crank sensor, the engine control module (ECM) wouldn`t know when to fire the fuel injectors and ignite the spark plugs.

Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten. Dirty Air Filter: Clean or replace. Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas. If this doesn`t work, you might need a new fuel filter.
What kills ignition coils is location; being mounted in one of the hottest, most vibration prone and dirtiest parts of the engine. Modern ignition coils are typically located between two camshafts on the valve cover and exposed to dirt and oil.
Car suddenly stalls while operating: One of the most common symptoms of a failed ignition relay is a car that suddenly stalls while operating. If the ignition relay shorts, burns out, or otherwise fails while the engine is operating it will cut off power to the fuel pump and ignition system.
If you found oil has entered the spark plug tube galley then the oil may have shorted out all the coils and plug wires causing the engine no start.
After you`ve changed your spark plugs, you should start up your engine to make sure they`re working as they should. If your engine starts up without a hitch, you can pat yourself on the back for a job done right.
The deposits that build upon the plugs can eventually cause them to misfire. When this happens, the unburned fuel in the cylinders can start to eat away at the cylinder walls. This can cause dangerous pressure levels to build up, and it can even lead to engine failure.

However, if the spark plug gap is too large, the spark is unlikely to consistently “jump” across the long distance between electrodes, thus leading to a rough-running engine or one that doesn`t run at all. Fortunately, spark-plug gaps can be easily adjusted by mechanics, including many amateur do-ityourselfers.

Wont start new carberator, new fuel lines w/filter, new spark plug and air filter.

It ran like a champ. I put it away and a week later it wont start. Acts just like it did before I changed everything

ANSWER : If the same fuel is in it try draining and re filling with fresh fuel, if no better to rule out an ignition issue, spray some fuel oil mix straight down the carb throat, if it fires up it is still a fuel issue.

Why my blade wont engage on my toro 74370 zeroturn mower
ANSWER : It has an electromagnetic clutch switch on it,that is more than likely bad. Try this, pull the pto switch out and start the engine, then disconnect the 2 wires coming from the switch and just tap them together and see if they will come on. If they do then you need to replace that switch.

Just bought a new 26ss gas powered weed eater. This is my 3rd time using it and it wont start. I keep it in my shed out of bad weather, so I know it’s kept in good condition. I havn’t used it in 2 weeks and last time I did it ran fine. Yesterday I followed the instructions to crank it and nothing. I have the proper gas to oil ratio, and like I said it’s brand new so I’m pretty sure it cant be the spark plug, and the fuel lines look in tact. One question I have gas in the bubbls just wandering what else it could be? Thanks!!!

Hello, unit wont start. I prime, put it in the 1 position it fires. Put in the 2 position it fires but sputters out. will not run on 3 at all. changed plug
ANSWER : The trimmer has a model number other than TB70SS that would be similar to these:
41ADT70C966 or 41ADT70C711 I will use the C966 model as my reference.

Your carb has 3 fuel lines attached to it. Any one of them can have a split at one of the connections. If there is air being introduced into the fuel system most of the time these units will not run without the choke being on.

The one component that fails habitually is the primer bulb and hose:
http://www.ereplacementparts.com/primer-and-hose-assembly-p-282388.html?osCsid=q9uihhn374677qfsj8fvvhnkp4

Check the primber bulb for any pin holes and check the hose of the primer bulb for cracks at fittings. Also make sure the carb mounting screws are tight.

I think you most likely have a primer bulb problem but you can have a clogged fuel pick up inside the fuel tank: See this link:
http://www.ereplacementparts.com/fuel-line-assembly-p-391216.html?osCsid=q9uihhn374677qfsj8fvvhnkp4

If the unit is more than 3 years old I would replace all of the fuel lines above just to end the current misery.

There is one last possibility and that would be that the fuel float needle and diaphragm of the carb need replacing. To find you the correct gasket kit I need to know all the markings that are stamped on the body of the carb. They will be 2 or 3 letters.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly
