How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Why would the engine only run while the choke is on or with repeated manual priming? An engine that requires the choking (partial or full) after initial engine warm up is an indication that the engine fuel air mixture system is out of adjustment.
When does the bike run only with a choke? This mainly happens when there is dirt in and around the parts of the carburetor. The areas of concern here include fuel lines, petcock, pilot jets, or fuel filters. The dirt blocks the fuel passage and it cannot reach the carburetor properly.
Many times this is caused by a plugged vent in the gas cap. Try running it and unscrew the fuel cap part way to see if venting the tank will allow it to run without the choke. If so, then clean the cap with hot water and dish soap or replace the cap with a new one.
If the engine will idle but dies at full throttle the main jet in the carburetor may be plugged. You can repair a plugged main jet by cleaning it, replacing the jet, or replacing the carburetor. If you choose to clean or replace the main jet, you will also want to clean the rest of the carburetor.
We do not recommend that any type of outdoor power equipment be operated after initial warm-up and with the choke control outside of the normal run position for longer than 5 minutes. Some engines utilize a manual fuel primer bulb to enrich the ratio of fuel in the fuel air mixture for initial engine starting.
If the car cranks when you turn the key, but the engine won`t start, it could be because fuel isn`t getting to the engine. One potential reason for this could be dirty fuel injectors. Over time, the fuel injector nozzles can become clogged with rust, corrosion or debris.
In a manual choke car, depending on the temperature, of the engine, and of the air that is being injested into the venturi of the carburetor, this `warm engine does not need a choke or a fluttering of the gas pedal to get started.
Your carburetor needs cleaned. Engine is not getting enough gas, and by choking it, you are giving it more gas, which is why it runs. Most likely the low speed and main jet have crud blocking the orafices from bad/old fuel. Your fuel bowl also is dirty from same.
If the piston rings or the cylinder are worn, your blower will lose power. These parts can become damaged for many reasons, such as running your blower with an incorrect fuel ratio. The most common reason to replace this part is because the piston rings are worn.
If your carburetor is clogged, it can cause your leaf blower`s engine to die when the choke is disengaged. You can disassemble it, clean it, and replace individual parts with a carb kit. Once your carburetor has been unclogged, cleaned, and re-assembled using the carb kit, the engine should run with the choke off.
You Lose Power in the Middle of Mowing:

Here`s why this happens and what you can do: Dirty Air Filter on Your Lawn Mower: Clean or replace. Dirty Spark Plug: Clean or replace. Build Up of Clippings & Debris: Clean underside of your lawn mower deck as noted above.

Carburetor Problems Cause Mower Engines Not To StartThe carburetor regulates how air and fuel move through the engine to power your equipment. If it is dirty, that can cause poor engine performance or starting problems. Disconnected, dirty or fouled spark plugs are common causes for engines that won`t start.
Choke: 1. A control on a carburetor to adjust the air/fuel mixture when the engine is cold. Throttle: 1. A valve that regulates the supply of fuel-air mixture to an internal combustion engine and thus controls its speed; a similar valve that controls the air supply to an engine.
In internal combustion engines with carburetors, a choke valve or choke modifies the air pressure in the intake manifold, thereby altering the air–fuel ratio entering the engine. Choke valves are generally used in naturally aspirated engines to supply a richer fuel mixture when starting the engine.
PROBLEMS STARTING YOUR CAR

If one or more of the flywheel`s teeth are damaged or broken, then the wheel can`t engage with the starter motor. You might need to try a few times to get your car to start, or it might not start at all.

If your engine turns over or cranks, but doesn`t start, it could be due to a dirty carburetor. When there`s too much dirt in the carburetor, the required combination of air and fuel can`t travel through the passage to the engine, causing a turn over, but no catch or actual start. It`s running lean.
It will not damage the engine at all. All that will happen is that it will run richer, thus using more fuel. If you did it for thousands of miles you`d probably end up with more deposits in the engine/exhaust, but even that is easy to sort.
In fact, choke will usually subside on its own.
This method involves looking at the base of the spark plug insulator (white part of the plug) for a slight coloring on the insulator just above where the insulator comes through the steel case. If the mixture is too lean, it will leave no color, while a rich mixture will cause the fuel ring to become more prominent.
The choke is intended only for cold starting. The engine won`t run properly or won`t run at all if the choke is left `on. ` The choke should be `off` all of the time when you are driving. Don`t use the choke at all unless it is necessary to start the cold engine.
Change of fan location to increase blower efficiency

Relocating your blower to reduce its length of runs and straightening bends can help you reduce energy consumption by 5 to 30 percent.

One of the most common causes of a sputtering engine is an issue with the vehicle`s fuel system—the filter, pump, and injectors. These three critical components work together to ensure fuel flows smoothly from the fuel tank to your engine`s fuel injectors, and then pumps into the engine evenly.
The blower motor resistor is responsible for controlling the blower motor speed. In the past, this was done by varying the voltage supplied to the blower motor. In newer applications, the blower motor resistor is actually a solid state module that sends a varied signal to the blower motor.
The choke is intended only for cold starting. The engine won`t run properly or won`t run at all if the choke is left `on. ` The choke should be `off` all of the time when you are driving. Don`t use the choke at all unless it is necessary to start the cold engine.

Will only start and run in choked position, when throttle applied chokes out. If started with out choke and throttle position in low speed will start and run for 10 sec then like it runs out of gas.
ANSWER : I have your solution guaranteed, I fixed mine yesturday remove H L screw plastic caps and on high 11 threads exposed and on the low side 8 threads exposed. removing the plastic caps allows u further adjusting these wear out or move soo just take them things off and you will be rolling

Have to run on half choke, just stops if i turn it off.fuel is 25 to 1. thanks alan.
ANSWER : More than likely a small passage way in the carb is clogged. You can try some carb cleaner, but you may need to disassemble the carb and clean it out. Be advised that these passageways are sometimes as fine as a human hair, and almost impossible to clear sometimes. A new carb may be required if it is worth it to you. Sorry.

Starts right up on choke. then run inrun position for a minute and have to go back to choke to keep it running ,then it runs fine for a couple of minutes and have to go back to choke and start all over again.
ANSWER : This happens with the cover off, so not the filter.

Can get it to start, but runs about three seconds and stops. the choke is pushed in. But seems to want to run longer with the choke out. 4 seconds…
ANSWER : Its the old problem,,,,,,,short of fule, or no fule getting to the carb,,,,, clean out the tank filters and then clean out the carb and all the jets in it as well put in fresh fule and then it will run all day and with out the choke being on,,, thats a lot longer than 4 seconds!

While running what setting does the choke lever need to be placed in
ANSWER : Depending on how your unit runs, it may need to be on half choke until the motor warms up. After the motor gets hot it should run with the choke fully off.

Blower only runs with full choke. When I switch to half choke, it dies and won’t start.
ANSWER : It may simply need the high speed jet opening up a bit (2 screws near eachother on the carb and the high speed is furthest from the engine)failing that it needs a carb kit…. this is a serviceable item changed regularly.

Seems to start easily run for a few minutes and then slow and stop–bulb remains full –gas is good–have tried half choke in case too lean–did not solve–also seems possibly related to the angle I hold it at–seems to cut out quicker if blower tube angled more downward.
ANSWER : Your filter may be hanging up in the tank. you also my be losing compression
