Lawn tractor has 57 hours and the hydrostatic transmission whines (the faster the louder) going forward, but not in reverse. It is just disconcerting to hear it whining.

It is not unusual for transaxle gears to make a slight whining noise while the tractor is moving. Normally, this is more noticeable for new tractors or new transmissions. This sound is the result of friction from the gear teeth meshing inside the transaxle casing.
Genuine Toro transmission oil. Toro HYPR-OIL 500 high-performance hydro oil is specially formulated for use in all Toro landscape contractor equipment, including Toro Z Master commercial mowers, mid-size mowers, and new Toro GrandStand stand-on mowers.
Toro hydraulic systems on these models are manufactured by Hydro-Gear.
A humming or whining noise in an automatic transmission vehicle often means that you are low on automatic transmission fluid. If this is the case, you want to refill that fluid immediately. Transmission fluid reduces friction, which means heat, which in turn is bad news for transmissions.
Low Transmission Fluid: For both manual and automatic transmissions, the primary cause for whining when in gear is low transmission fluid. If the fluid is too low, then the internal components of the transmission are not lubricated properly.
Recommended for all hydrostatic drive systems where the manufacturer recommends SAE 20W-50 fluid.
Replacing hydrostatic fluid is normally not necessary, unless the drive system is in need of some other internal service or repair.
Hydrostatic transmissions have often been used with flywheel accumulators. Their main advantage lies in their compactness and high efficiency. Their main disadvantage is the high cost, particularly where high-efficiency units are used.
The Toro Company is an American company based in the Minneapolis suburb of Bloomington, Minnesota that designs, manufactures, and markets lawn mowers, snow blowers, and irrigation system supplies for commercial and residential, agricultural, and public sector uses. Bloomington, Minnesota, U.S.
Should the whining noise of your transmission continue whenever your vehicle is in gear, this can mean there is a problem occurring in your torque converter. Check to see if the noise desists when you shift the vehicle to park or neutral. A constant whining noise when your car is in gear needs professional attention.
