Most likely due to water in the fuel tank, drain and replace with fresh fuel. When stored for more than 2 weeks put an ethanol treatment in the fuel to prevent the ethanol from turning into water. If this doesn’t clear the problem up your carburator may need to be cleaned.

Clogged or Dirty Air Filters
It is one of the most common problems that cause lawnmowers to sputter. The mowers take the air from the surrounding through air filters and mix it with fuel inside the engine. So, if the air filter is clogged or dirty, it will affect the flow of air into the carburetor.
Water in the Fuel Tank or Fuel Line
If there is water in your tank, siphon or drain it, then add new gas. After old gas in the line works its way through the mower`s engine it should stop sputtering and run like new again.
A dirty air filter inhibits the flow of air into the carburetor. Clean or replace the air filter to stop the mower from sputtering to a halt. Too much air can also cause problems for the engine. A bad cap on the gas tank is the first place to look.
If the fuel amount is too much or too little, the engine may begin to sputter. Your mass airflow sensor tells you how much air is in the engine. Just like the oxygen sensor, the engine will sputter if there is too much or too little air. Spark plugs are an integral part of your engine.
A strip of uncut grass left in the middle of mowing rows could signal that your lawnmower`s blades are unbalanced or that one or both of them was installed the wrong way. Lawnmower blades are beveled and specifically designed to attach in a certain fashion.

Blue or white smoke coming from your engine usually indicates burning oil, which can be caused by: Overfilling the crankcase with oil. Incorrect oil grades. Operating engine at greater than a 15 degree angle.

Won,t start, gas spark plug checkout – Poulan Pro 22" Self Propelled High Wheel Mower
ANSWER : Pull the bottom bolt out of the carb and then the the bowl. inspect for debris or water then clean out the bowl then blow out the little hole in the bolt. it probably has some **** in it. I see it all the time.

I have a poulan pro self propelled lawn mower that won’t start. It ran fine this morning, but after I took a break and went back outside to finish mowing, it wouldn’t start. It sounds like it won’t ”catch” when you pull the starter rope. Any suggestions?
ANSWER : You need to check a few things. The spark first, you need to check if it is running correctly, does it have spark, by doing this: take out the spark, put it against a metal surface and pull the pull start if it spark, your good if not you need a new spark plug. Clean out your airfiilter it migth help too. Buy some carb and choke cleaner squirt it up theough the airfilter hole, and start the engine, this will clen the carb. yOU MIGHT NEED TO TAKE OUT THE CARB AND CLENA I OUT THROUGHOULY!!! Try that and it whould work after all these steps!
This hapened on my mower and it turned u that the spark pug was too bigfor the motor and the valves were totally broke!!!Not good…

What kind of fuel do i use in my PoulalnPro600 mower. Is it a 4 cyle?do I use unleaded gas. Not mixed with oil?
