How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

The carburetor might be clogged. A clogged carburetor is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in the string trimmer for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance.
Over time the air filter will need to be replaced as it becomes clogged with small particles and debris, starving the engine of air, causing a loss in power. Locate the air filter cover on top of the carburetor and remove it. It may be attached by screws or just a tab. Once off, remove filter, replace, and re-assemble.
Over time, the spark arrestor can become clogged with soot. If the spark arrestor is clogged, the engine may not start. To unclog the spark arrestor, remove it and clean it with a wire brush. You may also replace the spark arrestor.
Most STIHL gasoline-powered equipment runs on a 50:1 mixture of gasoline and 2-cycle engine oil. Knowing the proper way to mix your fuel is the first step in keeping it running strong and long.
The most likely culprit is a dirty or clogged air filter. Issues with your fuel pump or fuel filter can also cause your engine to idle then die with any throttle. If you have an older car, it could also be a bad carburetor.
When the spark arrestor is clogged, the engine can`t get rid of its exhaust gases, and it won`t keep running. The spark arrestor is a screen located just behind the muffler. Pull it out and clean or replace it.
When your trimmer starts and runs on choke, it could be because the check valve in the gas cap is clogged. Start the trimmer and gently unscrew the gas cap halfway off. Turn the choke off and assess. If the engine is still running, that means the gas cap may be the culprit.
Trimmer line does tend to dry out over time and becomes more brittle. Storing it or soaking it in water will help reduce line breakage and make the line more flexible. Be sure to deplete your supply of last year`s line before you purchase new line and begin using it.
Trimmer line can melt together because of several reasons, here are a few. Heat created by continually trimming around fences, and or bricks. Take breaks and feed line often. Heat created by continually trimming around concrete and or asphalt.
This trimmer cuts an 11″ swath at a continuous high speed, saving time and doing more with a STIHL AK System battery. With an AK 10 battery, the trimmer weighs just 7.7 pounds and has a run time of up to 25 minutes on a single charge.
See dealer for details or refer to STIHL`s Limited Warranty Policy. Unopened container shelf life: 4 years from the date of filling, in originally sealed containers.
For a mixing ratio of 1 : 50 you need 5 litres of high-octane gas and 0.10 litres (100 ml) of STIHL two-stroke oil.
Most string trimmers use a flexible drive shaft inside the shaft housing even if the shaft is straight. These flex shafts can start to vibrate when they wear out, or when they aren`t properly lubricated. Vibration can also occur when the connection between the flex shaft and the trimmer head is loose or worn.
The most common problem with a strimmer not starting is that there`s a problem with the fuel mix. Double check that you`ve used 40 parts fresh unleaded petrol to 1 part 2-stroke oil (40:1). Check the petrol you`ve used isn`t stale.
If your 2-stroke brushcutter fails to start, the simplest explanation is that there is not enough fuel: in this case you simply need to top it up. A 2-stroke brushcutter engine runs on fuel/oil mixture, which you can buy ready prepared, such as EFCO-Mix Alkilate alkylated mixture in a 5 L can.
If your chainsaw still starts and then stops working, check the air filter. Clean or replace the air filter if it is dirty or damaged. Another reason that your chainsaw starts and then stops working could be that the spark arrestor is dirty or clogged. If this is the case, clean it with a wire brush.
The carburetor might be clogged. A clogged carburetor is often caused by leaving fuel in the chainsaw for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the chainsaw engine to stall.
If your bike is only running with the choke on, it`s probably because it`s running too lean. This can be caused by a few different things: All internal combustion engines need three things to run: fuel, air, and spark. If any of these are missing or not working properly, the engine won`t run.
Leaving the choke on while operating will result in excessive fuel consumption, irregular engine power performance and eventually may even damage the engine.
They are certified as splashproof and have undergone extensive, varied and very thorough testing and development at STIHL`s Research and Development facilities. The splashwater test meets the well-known IPX4 standard, among others.
While you do not have to oil your clipper blades after every use, you should get into the routine of oiling them every 2 uses. Oiling your hair clipper blades is super quick, easy, and will ensure that the blades always work properly.
Thicker trimmer line (up to 3mm) is designed for longer grass and can be used for medium-powered trimmers or brushcutters. The thickest trimmer line (3mm+) is usually twisted, serrated or square-shaped and is designed for long grass and low undergrowth.
Circuit Overload

Sometimes outlets are overburdened with appliances, loaded power strips, etc., and the demand is beyond what the electrical wiring was designed to carry. When this happens, the wiring will become hot and possibly ignite or melt anything that comes into contact with it, including the plastic outlet.

Sometimes the fakes are obvious (STIHL never uses stickers to mark its products – our logo is always printed or embossed directly on the product), but the only way to be sure you are getting a genuine STIHL is to purchase your product from an authorized STIHL Dealer.

My hedge trimmer will not start… Put in new gas
ANSWER : It’s not getting gas, due to being gummed up with old gas. Remove all of the old gas and mix up a batch of fresh gas&oil. Also get some carb cleaner. Put just a little of the gas&oil mix plus an equal part carb cleaner. Try to start it just to work the new mixture through the carb. You might use the spray start to help pull the new gas through. If it fires up on the new gas&oil&carbcleaner mix, shut it off and let it sit for an hour or two. Drain it out and try just a little gas&oiil without the carb cleaner. If all is well fill the tank. If not, repeat the whole process. If you can’t clear the gum this way you may have to remove the carb to clean it.
Good luck.

Will cut off after five min of running .does it need a new coil
ANSWER : Check gas cap first for vent being plugged as this will create a vacuum in the tank and prevent fuel delivery. Test when problem occurs by immediately loosening cap and retightening to see if restarts right away you might even hear air going into the fuel tank.
If it doesn’t restart, possible coil. Coils are usually affected by the increase of heat when running having too high resistance in the electrical windings or possible moisture.
