A Dirty Carburetor Can Cause a Lawnmower To Start Then Die

By far, the most common issue that causes a stalled motor is a dirty carburetor. The carburetor on your engine is the thing that draws in air and mixes it with the fuel. Contrary to what the movies might make you think, gasoline itself is not very flammable.

As the fuel level drops, a vacuum begins to form in the fuel tank because air can get in to fill the space the consumed fuel occupied. After about 10 or 15 minutes, the vacuum will become strong enough that fuel will stop flowing to the carburetor and the lawnmower will die.
You can increase nitrogen in soil by adding nitrogen-rich fertilizer, composted manure, processed plant-based soil amendments, homemade compost, and even by planting certain crops that can pull nitrogen down into the soil from the atmosphere. These are all great sources of nitrogen for plants.
Other things that could cause this issue are bad fuel, weak/colapsed/kinked fuel line, faulty spark plug, faulty ignition/coil, oil over full, clogged air filter, plugged/dirty carburetor, worn engine parts internal rings/valves/etc.
A dirty air filter inhibits the flow of air into the carburetor. Clean or replace the air filter to stop the mower from sputtering to a halt. Too much air can also cause problems for the engine. A bad cap on the gas tank is the first place to look.
The spark plugs are worn or damaged

If you find that your lawnmower keeps dying, or keeps stalling while cutting grass, then inspect the spark plugs. Look for signs of damage or wear. Something as simple as a cracked porcelain insulator can mean an electrode has been damaged or burned away.

The pulleys in your lawn tractor are driven by the drive belt, and turn the spindles. If a pulley doesn`t spin freely, it can cause the engine to die when the blades are engaged. To check the pulleys for sticking and damage, first remove the drive belt from the engine pulley and lift the lever to engage the blades.

ANSWER : Try opening up the high speed jet, see if it does any better. Turn it just a quarter turn at a time, if opening it up doesn’t do anything, try closing it. If that doesn’t do it, try closing it down all the way, then open it up 1 1/2 turns, this will put you into run mode, you can adjust it from there. ANSWER : Suspect Ignition Coil is failing under heat.
To test this, take the unit outdoors and have a fire extinguisher handy. Start and allow unit to run until it shuts down. Then remove spark plug and test for spark by grounding the outer shell of the plug on the engine’s metal surface.

Keep your face away from the spark plug hole as you pull the rope to test for spark. Expelled fuel or vapors can ignite via the removed spark plug or any subsequent arc.

If no spark when hot, and good spark when cold, replace ignition coil.
Find your EXACT model number on your unit, then go HERE to lookup the part number of the coil. Call your local reputable repair shop and ask if they have it in stock or can order for you.

My mower is 4 months old, I used it 5 times in the spring and tried to use it today and it would only start after I primed it. It stalls after 2 seconds every time.
ANSWER : The float and needle are stuck (if carb separate from tank), the main jet is plugged with trash, or the diaphram needs replaced (carb mounted on tank)(not so likely with as little age as this has on it)
