While I was mowing on a slant my left wheel fell into a rut where my field meets my driveway. When I pushed forward on the handles to pull away it vibrated abrubtly and hesitated to go forward. I have a Poulan push mower that after mowing in a ditch started making a loud noise and running rough. It almost sounded as if metal was hitting metal. The mower was vibrating more than normal. I checked under the mower and nothing is hitting. After a few times of stopping the mower engine because it sound as if it is going to die down the mower will not start now. The shaft does not appear bent and the blade appears ok. The mower has oil, a good spark plug and a clean air filter. It was running fine until that moment. I did not see anything that I hit but it is possible I hit something in the ditch like a pine cone or branch. What could the problem be and how would I go about fixing it?
ANSWER : If you are sure the oil level is correct then it sounds like it’s about to die, unfortunately. A pine cone shouldn’t cause any damage, but a large branch may do so. Was it smoking before you shut it down? The vibration could be caused from a bent blade. It could also be caused from a part breaking in the motor. I wish I could have given you better news!

I have mtd large wheel push mower tecumseh model 501039c engine has no spark to plug, coil checks good. i have disconnected the ground wire from the coil that leads to? and grounded the coil to another part of the mower and will get spark to the plug that way. I have not tried running the mower with the coil grounded where I have it. What can be the problem?
ANSWER : I would say if you can get a spark by moving the ground, try running the mower. If it works you should be OK.


Is the rubber on the drive wheel on the snapper mower fixed to the metal hub? The rubber wheel part of the drive is not securely attached to the metal frame and slips when the mower goes up hill. Should I replace the drive wheel?
ANSWER : Yes, it may have gotten excessive oil on it and swelled the rubber. Replace the drive wheel.

I have a Husqvarna YTH2348 that I bought from Lowe’s last summer. As I was mowing today it suddenly started to vibrate excessively. I believe the problem is in the transaxle. When the brake is engaged there is no vibration, as soon as I disengage the brake it starts to vibrate more than normal. It will move forward and back, but I obviously don’t want to use it if something has come loose inside or an adjustment needs to be made.
ANSWER : There are usually one or two idler pulleys on the belt that runs from the engine to the transmission. Check those, more than likely one has gone bad. the should spin freely with the brake engaged, and the should not wobble.
