How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

The side with tiny raised wings and edges on it is the side that should be facing up towards the mower deck. The cutting edge of this upside is dull and blunt, while the cutting edge of the downward-facing side is sharper. If the lawn mower blade has been attached incorrectly, you can test it using the wobble method.
The metal flaps or teeth-edges or bevel should be up, and cutting edges should face the ground when you put a mulching blade on.
– John Deere Mower Blades

This brand does not usually have reverse thread bolts, which means that the blades are reverse-threaded. The bolts are often found threaded in the typical fashion. In order to tighten the bolt, turn it clockwise to the right. To loosen the bolt, turn it counterclockwise to the left.

It`s important that the blade`s cutting edge follows the direction of rotation. The wings of the lawn mower blade will be oriented up toward the mower deck, and any writing on the blade will likely be facing away from the deck. If the blade bolt comes with a washer, its concave side will be facing the blade.
The curved wing at the end of the blade should point towards the deck. The cutting edge or smooth side of the blade should face towards the grass side.
Right-hand cut vs left-hand cut blades

Believe it or not, the cutting edge is not on the same side for all lawn mower blades. Right-hand cut lawn mower blades are overwhelmingly the most common type. Left-hand cut blades can be found on some mower`s manufactured by Kubota, Woods, Walker, and others.

Standard blades are also referred to as “2-in-1” (discharging & bagging) or “high-lift” blades (because they are designed to create a higher-lifting airflow). Mulching blades generally have a more curved style surface and frequently include extra cutting surfaces along the blade edges.
Mulching blades are sometimes called “all purpose” or “3-in-1” blades because you can use them to mulch, bag, or side discharge.

The bolt holding the John Deere Lawn Mower blade doesn`t turn in a reverse thread. If you want to tighten its blade, all you need to do is twist it clockwise. For removal, turn the bolt in the opposite direction.

MulchControl™ Kits, with the pull-of-a-lever technology, are available on S240 Riding Mowers with Accel Deep™ Mower Decks, Select Series Mowers, Signature Series Mowers, and all Residential ZTrak™ Mowers. All MulchControl™ Kits from John Deere include mulching blades for best grass mulching results.
What If You Tilt Your Mower The Wrong Way? Don`t panic it`s not that big a deal. If you tilted your mower the wrong way, just tilt it onto its four wheels again and clean up any spilled gas. Oil and gas may have made their way to the air filter, and saturated it.
With the blade on backward, there is no sharp edge cutting the grass, and the grass is cut unevenly. Unless you enjoy choppy, messy grass, placing the mower blade on the right side is a must.
Step 3 – Loosen the blade bolt

Wearing safety gloves, begin to loosen the blade bolt by turning it counter-clockwise. Depending on the type of lawn mower that you have, there may be one or several heat treated blade bolts to undo, which may or may not have special washers attached to them.

Blades wont move when power connected. Stripped it down. Motor is fine. I think it must be the gears attached to the blade unit
ANSWER : Either the gears, OR SOME machines have a “CENTRIFUGAL CLUTCH” [a safety feature] between the engine and the blades.
