There is typically one of two ways to change the cutting height on your hover mower, depending on the model you own. This is either via a central height adjustment lever found on the side of the lawnmower, or by adding or removing spacers between the lawnmowers blade and cutting deck.
For a typical residential Midwest lawn, maintain a height of 3 inches or higher. Taller grass shades out weed seeds and keeps soil cooler. Taller grass means longer roots and greater ability to withstand drought and reach nutrients.
Place the blade bolt into the centre hole and then tighten it to a torque of 30-35Ft/Lb or 45–55Ft/Lb, depending on your mower type. It is important to check bolt specifications for your individual mower`s torque settings to ensure it is not over or under torqued.
For the last mowing or two of fall, simply lower your blades one notch, or set the blades at the lowest mowing height recommended for your grass type. In spring, leave your mower blades at the lower setting for the first couple of mowings, then return the blades to the higher setting for the summer.
Place the blade onto the lawnmower with the flat side facing downwards towards the grass.
Most lawn mower blades rotate in a clockwise direction (counter-clockwise when viewed from below), and as such have the cutting edge on the right side. If you are unsure of how your mower rotates, check the position of the discharge chute; if it is on the right side angled back, the blade turns clockwise.
A dull blade is the number one reason for leaving uncut grass. The blunt blade will damage your lawn in no time at all; it tears the grass and leaves a jagged edge which turns the grass tips yellow. The recommended way to repair the yellow grass damage – regularly cut with a sharp lawnmower blade.
When to sharpen the lawnmower blades on your Flymo. As a rule of thumb, sharpening your lawnmower blade 3-4 times per year is usually enough, but if you have debris in your lawn, such as stones, and your blade is hitting them you`ll need to sharpen them again after the collision.
The blade may be out of balance, or the blade bolt could be damaged. If so then it needs to be replaced. Check to see if the impeller (fan) is worn or damaged and if the lugs on the spacers have sheared. If so then these too need replacing.

Cutting unevenly Changed blades now the tractor cutting the grass unevenly.
ANSWER : Set the mower on a known flat piece of concrete. Now look at the deck and the support connections where the deck hangs from from the mower. Should be adjustments such as pins with clips or threaded bolt hangers which will allow you to raise or lower the corner of the deck which is low or high. Conversely you could have put a blade in upside down or left out a washer making one blade higher than the other. Usually an owner’s manual will detail this process. As you just changed your blades, as opposed to wear and tear, likely you did not put it back together exactly as you took it apart.

I would like to replace the mulching blades on my Sears Craftsman riding mower with regular cutting blades. I can find plenty of sources for new mulching blades, but not cutting blades. My mower is a model 917.259541 tractor and the blades currently on it are part #134149. I want to make sure I get the right size to replace them. Also, is there a source for a bagging system for this mower, that won’t cost as much as one from Sears?
