Craftsman LT1000 – the older ones from 2000-2005 and some from 2006-2007 are very sturdy and have the wide body now reserved for higher-end YTs (“Yard Tractors”), mostly heavy-duty decks, solid controls, and basically last forever with either a Briggs and Stratton single or twin cylinder or a Kohler single cylinder.
Most of the time, you can find the Craftsman model and serial number on the top of the mower. If you were standing behind it and using it, the identification tag would be on the top rear portion of the deck, between the wheels.
All Craftsman mowers are made by MTD. Craftsman lawn tractors run the price spectrum from rear-drive models priced around $1,300 to full-featured, hydrostatic drive units that cost more than $2,000. Most Craftsman lawn tractors feature Briggs & Stratton engines, and the 42-inch-deck models are among the most popular.
Craftsman Tools were originally made in the United States and were known for their durability and reliability. The switch to manufacturing in China has generated controversy and concern among consumers who question the quality of the products.

The model number is printed on the left side of the Product Identification Label, attached to the metal bracket that supports the seat, and begins with the letters, “CM”.
Generally, you can identify a Craftsman tool by the logo or the name that`s printed/embossed into the tools themselves. Craftsman as a brand hasn`t changed its name since Sears & Roebuck introduced it in 1927, so each tool should bear either the name or logo (usually somewhere on the handle).
