The label calls for 2 to 3 pounds per 1000 square feet. If your spreader settings go from 1 to 10 (1 letting out the least and 10 letting out the most) you typically want to be around a 2 setting. If your spreader goes from 1 to 20, you should probably be around a 4 setting.
Every sprayer should be thoroughly calibrated before the first use of the season, and the calibration should be checked periodically during the season. In addition, the sprayer should be recalibrated every time nozzles, pressure, or travel speed is changed. Remove nozzles and strainers, including in-line strainers.
So here are the general rules: For fertilizers put the setting a notch or two above half. For example, if there are 20 notches on the spreader, 11-12 would be the setting. You don`t have to cover every square inch of turf to get good results, so if you think that`s too much, drop to a notch below half.
For best coverage, set the spreader at 50 percent, and then spread your seed two ways in a crosshatch pattern.
Spreader calibration consists of two processes. First, the spread pattern must be adjusted to distribute the fertilizer particles uniformly. Second, the amount of fertilizer spread over the desired area must be measured and adjusted, if necessary, to equal the recommended application rate.

I have a speedy green spreader. I would like to know what setting to use for overseeding. The bag of seed does not have any settings on it.
It’s all is dependent on your square footage i can’t believe it’s not on your bag but maybe try Scotts website. or call your local home center.
Trying to figure out the spreader setting for some bug killer for my lawn. I have a Scott’s Basic Spreader. The instructions on the bag include Scott’s Speedy Green Spreader setting at 2 1/2 for 2lbs per 1000 sq. ft. What would that translate to for my basic spreader?
You can safely use the recommened settings for the SpeedyGreen in your Scotts Basic Spreader. Hilary @Scotts
This is a Scotts Speedy Green 2000 model. What is the problem when the flat thing below the hopper quits turning to throw the fertilizer out onto the yard?
It’s important to have precisely the right setting. A little wide is better, because the product you’re spreading isn’t always even, but you’ll have to walk faster to ensure you don’t over apply. This is a notorious problem with those plastic spreaders – I’ve used them lots – and I find that if you stop suddenly with fertilizer in the hopper it instantly stops up. Backing up quickly, then jerking it forward seems to help most of the time.
Make sure you close the chute before you stop moving, and be quick with the chute release. Also, don’t fill it too much because when you run into this problem it makes it more difficult to remedy.
