Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
Some oil consumption is normal. The rings in the pistons can wear and let oil by. The valve seals are the same way. Unless it is using a lot of oil or showing blue smoke when you start it or when you accelerate, it is not much of a concern.

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Engines equipped with a turbocharger(s) will consume more engine oil than normally aspirated engines (non-turbocharged). The additional oil that is consumed in a turbocharged engine is mainly due to the turbocharger lubrication requirements.
Turbo charged engines have one oil usage weakness. The turbo charger hot end tends to “cook” the exhaust side oil seal. This is because of the heat from combustion in the exhaust which can exceed 2,000 degrees. At 100k, most Turbos need the seal replaced.
As the engine accumulates miles, and the valve guides, rings and cylinders start to wear, oil consumption goes up. Consequently, in a high-mileage engine that is burning oil, phosphorus and zinc contamination of the O2 sensors and catalytic converter can be a problem.
If your engine is low on oil but there isn`t a leak, that means it`s probably being burned inside the engine. A bad PCV valve is a frequent culprit in the case of burning oil–but what is it, exactly? A PCV valve is designed to let air escape when the pressure in the crankcase is too high.
Burning too much oil

To check to see if your turbo is leaking oil you`ll need an endoscope. Find the downpipe at the face of the turbo unit, then unplug it. Use the endoscope to look inside. If you see oil, you may well have a problem.

Contaminated or dirty oil will scratch or score the bearings in the blink of an eye as they rotate so fast, leading to rapid wear and ultimately turbocharger failure.
Motor Honey is an oil treatment that you add to your car`s regular motor oil. It`s designed to reduce oil burning (and the smoke that it sometimes causes) without having to make any changes to the engine itself. All you have to do is include one bottle with each oil change.
A turbocharger typically helps a car get better gas mileage because a smaller engine can be used to get the same amount of performance. Expect a turbocharged engine to be about 8% -10% more fuel efficient that the same engine that is not turbo equipped.
I just keep a case of BMW oil (overpriced Castrol) in the garage. For a long trip, I keep a quart in the car. Turbo engines tend to use/burn more oil than NA engines in general. Some N55`s burn more than others.

Now to rectify your problem; The air-filter will probably be saturated with oil. It will probably be the cartridge type which is not serviceable. Purchase a new filter (take your old filter so the sale person can compare like for like). Before you refit the new filter, take out the sparkplug, it will probably be saturated in oil – wash it in petrol, let it dry then refit it. The engine should start and belch out great quantities of smoke. Don’t be alarmed this will burn away. Once the smoke has cleared, check the oil level, fit the air filter and mow your lawn.

Dont know what type of oil to use – Toro Power Lawn Mower
ANSWER : Put straight 30 weight motor oil in it. Not 10W30 or any multi-viscosity oil. Straight 30 weight motor oil.
