Be sure to use bar chain oil, Not regular motor oil. (Your saw has standards).
The viscosity of chainsaw bar oil can vary, depending on the formula but 30W is standard. In cold weather, a thin 10W chainsaw oil may be advantageous, while very hot temperatures may require a much thicker 40W or 50W formula.
Does the pole saw use oil? Yes, bar and chain oil is required to properly lubricate the cutting system. Oregon Bar and Chain Oil is recommended for the PS250.
This means that the viscosity of this oil ranges (5w30) from 5 when it`s cold to 30 when it is hot. This oil is good lubricating for light-duty diesel and petrol engines. So, you can use it as a Chainsaw Bar Oil.
Although the motor does not require gas or any fuel additive, the chain will require `bar and chain` oil.
Bar-and-chain oil comes in two types: summer and winter. Egelhoff explains that summer and winter oils have different viscosity. Winter oil is thinner, allowing it to run smoothly even in cold temperatures and when stored for awhile. Summer oil is thicker, heavier and formulated to work in hot conditions.
Use for lubricating moving parts, pivot points and bearings. Lubricate small to larger motors found in sewing machines, fans, lawnmowers and trimmers, drills, chainsaws, and other tools.
You can run burnt motor oil as a substitute for bar oil. Now if you`re asking can you use SAE 30 as an engine lubricant rather than a good 2 cycle mix…the answer is no.
Any oil will work, even olive oil, except for that flinging at the top sprocket. there is an additive in chainsaw oil that makes it “stringy” and help it hold onto the chain links.
Pro Tip: Lubricate the sliding extendable poles of your tree trimmer as well as the pruner shears, lever arm, and blade with WD-40® Specialist® Dry Lube. The long-lasting corrosion protection does not attract dirt or debris and the formula provides superior lubrication with no oily residue.

16″ Electric Chain Saw: what kind of oil is used for electric chain saw…
ANSWER : I assume you are asking about the oil for the chain. Any good quality “Bar and Chain Oil” will do fine. Do not use motor oil you use in your car engine as it will not properly lube the chain and will result in quicker dulling and early demise of the chain.
You can get the “Bar and Chain Oil” at most hardware stores or Farm Supply stores.

Oil leaks out of the remington electric pole saw. The saw is stored/seated upright and I can’t see the problem
ANSWER : Remove the bar and chain, then clean the entire area. Look for leakage at either the small port where the bar fits, or from the motor case itself. Make sure the oil tank vent is open so that pressure doesn’t build up from heat. If the leakage is from the case, then look for a crack in the oil tank, or a defective oil line from the tank to the oil pump. Clean the drive end of the bar oil-channels that go out from the large holes to the chain groove on each side. Clean the entire chain groove. It also may be easier to just dump the oil out of the tank after each use if the chain seems to oiling properly. Hope this helps!
