The Yamaha EF2500 portable generator uses a NGK spark plug #BPR6HS. Just bought on this week at the local NAPA store to replace the old spark plug in my generator.

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

The most common generator spark plugs specifications are as follows: Gap size: 0.028″ – 0.031″ (0.7 mm – 0.8 mm) Socket size: 5/8″ (16mm) or 13/16″ (21mm)
(Note: diesel generators have glow plugs, and gasoline generators have spark plugs. These plugs ignite a spark that starts the generator.)
With varying spark plug gaps and lengths, it`s important to buy the right ones when it`s time to replace yours. Spark plugs that are too long can protrude into the cylinder and cause piston damage. Meanwhile, spark plugs that are too short will struggle to ignite and often cause engine misfiring.
Some generators will only have your typical 3-prong 20A 120V AC outlet, others will have a 4-prong 20/30-amp outlet. Using the 4-prong outlet with a gen-cord is ideal since they are safer to use and maximize the power distribution from your generator.
If you have a 50-amp outlet on your portable generator, you will most likely need a special power cord with two different ends. The straight-blade male plug will fit into the generator. The twist lock female connector will fit into a transfer switch or power inlet box.
Power Outlets

Portable generators can supply power as 12 volts DC, 120 volts AC, or 240 volts AC, but not all models are capable of supplying all three, and some only provide 120 volts AC. Duplex (double) outlets are common on portable generators and each one supplies 120 volts.

Failure to start or hard starting are two symptoms of a bad spark plug, as is rough running, higher fuel consumption and less power than usual. Learning to test a spark plug is a basic part of troubleshooting any small engine.
Change Spark Plugs: Spark plugs should be changed after roughly every 100 hours of use. The spark plugs should also be checked during generator servicing to make sure they`re not worn or cracked.
Copper is an excellent conductor of electricity – better than any other type of material used in spark plugs – and also transfers heat faster.
The larger the gap, the more voltage is needed to jump the gap. Most experienced tuners know that increasing the gap size increases the spark area exposed to the air-fuel mixture, which maximizes burn efficiency.
On most generators, the outlet is a 30-Amp or 50 Amp 120/240-Volt outlet and connects to a 30-amp or 50-amp 120/240-volt inlet box receptacle.
Yes you can provided that you don`t exceed the wattage ratings. Smaller generators have a selector switch and you have to decide whether you want 120V or 240V but the larger ones let you run both voltages.

Some generators can run for 12 hours on a full tank of fuel at 50 percent of the load. If a generator like this has a 4-gallon capacity, a gallon of fuel will last for 3 hours. Please note that when a generator is used for bigger loads, the fuel consumption will be higher.
Generally, a generator with a power capacity of around 5000 watts should be good enough for most homeowners. For larger households, 10000 watts or more should be the more practical option. If you want a generator for light use or recreational purposes, portable units delivering around 2000 watts should be sufficient.
Failure to ground a generator is hazardous and can lead to: Electrical overload on your generator which can damage the wiring or other sensitive parts of the electrical system, unless your generator has overload protection like all the generators at DuroMax. Electrocution from touching ungrounded metal.
A 30 amp plug has three prongs – a 120 volt hot wire, a neutral wire and a ground wire – and is generally used on RVs with lower load requirements. A 50 amp plug has four prongs – two 120 volt hot wires, a neutral wire and a ground wire – that supply two separate 50 amp, 120 volt feeds.
The outlet you choose should be as safe as it can be. For example, if the outlet doesn`t have a ground wire, it could catch on fire. If the outlet isn`t strong enough, it could burn out. Some outlets don`t even have a third prong, which is necessary for many appliances.
For consistent, easy starting, we recommend changing spark plugs every 100 hours or every season on all of your outdoor power equipment engines.
A fouled or bad spark plug is a plug that has become covered with a substance like oil, fuel or carbon or one that is blistered from running too hot.
How Long Do Yamaha Generators Last? The more you stay on top of regular maintenance, the longer your generator will last. These generators can easily go for 2,000 to 3,000 hours. This means your generator can last 10-20 years when maintained properly.
On average, a standby generator can run for up to 3,000 hours powering a medium-sized home, though it is recommended you do not run a generator for longer than 500 hours continuously.
When you add a properly formulated fuel stabilizer and store your generator in a cool, dry place, gasoline in the fuel tank has a maximum shelf life of up to one year. However, gasoline will clog in the carburetor if it isn`t used or drained within two weeks.
