How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
Only use the lithium setting if your car battery is a lithium battery. Only use the 6-volt setting if you`re charging a 6-volt battery. Car batteries are 12 volts. Check your charger`s instruction manual.
Connect your questionable battery to a lawn mower battery charger. Set it for 12 volts, which is the standard in the industry. Most lawn and garden devices have this voltage rating as a way to keep consumers safe from any shock.
10 amps are the recommended current. This is a slow charge. 20 amps are already fast charging. Repeated fast charging could overcharge your battery.
Additionally, you want to use a charger with an output of 10 amps or fewer to charge your lawn tractor`s battery. If you use one with a greater output, you risk damaging your mower`s battery.
Usually you`ll use a 12-volt charger for your mower, but some lawn mowers use 6-volt batteries, so check the label first. Match the charger`s voltage setting to the battery and use fewer than 10 amps. Monitor the charger until it`s done. Check your charger regularly to avoid overcharging or overheating the battery.
To increase the charge rate, you`ll need at least 12.9 volts. You can charge your automobile battery at higher voltages as long as it`s not yet fully charged. This means that the alternator voltages and the vehicle charger voltages could safely get 15 volts while ensuring the battery won`t get overcharged.
12v 2a is less likely to damage the battery (if you leave on very long,) but 12 6a will charge it faster. Of course if the battery charger is a “smart” charger, it will automatically shut off when the battery is charged.
12.5 volts – Your battery is at a healthy state of charge, but we`d recommend re-checking it within a few days to ensure the voltage hasn`t dropped any further. 12.1 – 12.4 volts – Your battery is partially discharged and should be recharged as soon as possible, using a suitable battery charger.
To charge a battery, a charger or your car`s alternator needs to raise the voltage across the battery posts. Normal charging voltage needs to remain below about 14.4 volts, which is the level at which gassing of hydrogen and oxygen starts.
Do not use an automotive battery charger to charge small sealed lead acid batteries. Car battery chargers are designed to work with big SLI batteries and charge at a high amperage. For small batteries like 6V 5Ah or 12V 9Ah this will be too much amperage.
To obtain maximum battery service life and capacity, along with acceptable recharge time and economy, constant voltage-current limited charging is best. To charge a sealed lead acid battery, a DC voltage between 2.30 volts per cell (float) and 2.45 volts per cell (fast) is applied to the terminals of the battery.
The higher the charge output, the faster a flat battery is recharged. Fast charging, however, is undesirable as it can buckle the battery plates .
Thus to fully recharge a 12V 100Ah battery using a 12V/10A charger will take a nominal 10 hours if the battery is fully discharged.
At 10 Amps, a 6-Volt, 4.5 Ah battery needs 25 minutes while one at 40 Amps only needs 5 minutes. For a 12-Volt 35-Ah battery, it takes 210 minutes at 10 Amps and 50 minutes at 40 Amps.
12.6V volts or above – Your battery is healthy and fully charged. No further action is required. 12.5 volts – Your battery is at a healthy state of charge, but we`d recommend re-checking it within a few days to ensure the voltage hasn`t dropped any further.
Most trickle chargers come with a 6 and 12-volt rating, allowing you to leave the battery hooked up overnight without worrying about it. To ensure that your trickle charger is compatible with your battery, make sure it is set to the same voltage.
The higher the charge output, the faster a flat battery is recharged. Fast charging, however, is undesirable as it can buckle the battery plates .

Ryobi troubleshooting Recently bought the two set package of 18V lithium batteries however the tool will not work. It was working however it has stopped . Tried two different batterie , both fully charged ,with no results.
ANSWER : The motor may have overheated and burned open. Use a multimeter to check resistance across the battery contacts in the tool with the switch closed. If it reads open, the motor has failed.

Ryobi 18v One+ battery won’t hold a charge. I have two of them and neither one will hold the charge. The charger is the Ryobi 18v charger plus. I have the same problem. As soon as I put the battery in the charger (even if it is dead) the “charging”, and the “fully charged” lights both come on. Even if I leave it for a day the battery will not charge.
ANSWER : If it’s both of them then i am thinking you have a faulty charger. i have seen mine do that, i got a new charger and it worked properly.

Though my Worx WG781 cordless 36V, 19 inch lawn mower came with what appeared to be a fully charged battery according to the battery LED lights , it is suggested that it be put on the charger “over night” to insure a complete charge. The charger LED light is supposed to flip from red to green when charging is complete. The battery has been charging for nearly 12 hours and the LED light on the charger remains red. Is this normal?
ANSWER : I have a different problem. When I try to charge my batter, the red light comes on for about 2 seconds, then goes out. The battery is not charging. Out of frustration I purchased a new charger, and it does the same thing. Thinking the battery was the problem, Worx sent me a new battery, but the exact same thing happens regardless of which charger is hooked up to either battery. The red light comes on for a couple of seconds, and then goes out. Any suggestions appreciated.

Why is the red light blinking on the charger??
ANSWER : Either the battery charger or the battery itself is bad. The charger can be easily tested with a volt meter to see if it is producing the correct voltage to charge the battery. The batttery voltage can also be checked the same way. Some other users have had this same issue.
