SAE 30 – Warmer temperatures, most common oil for small engines. SAE 10W-30 – Varying temperature range, this grade of oil improves cold-weather starting, but may increase oil consumption. Synthetic SAE 5W-30 – Best protection at all temperatures as well as improved starting with less oil consumption.
Before starting the engine, fill the engine with oil.

Can You Use Synthetic Lawn Mower Oil? Yes! We have recently modified our engine oil recommendations to state that you may now use a synthetic 5W30 or 10W30 oil in all temperature ranges.
SAE-30 oil is often a safe bet for your mower, but it`s still worth referring to your owner`s manual since a lawnmower is no small investment. Since you won`t be mowing in the wintertime unless you have a landscaping emergency in colder temperatures, there`s no reason to use a multi-grade motor oil such as 5W-30.
What Type Of Oil For a Lawn Mower? While automotive engine oil, such as 10W-30 or 10W-40, can be used in a lawn mower engine, it is generally recommended that SAE 30 motor oil be used.
Synthetic oil is superior to lubricants made from crude oil, and your lawn mower engine may last longer if you use synthetic. Essentially, it is a synthetic lubricant made up of chemical compounds designed to give engines the performance and protection that natural oil may not be able to provide.
All gas-powered engines need sufficient oil to run smoothly and they take the same type of oil to run as do cars. There are many brands of oil to choose but your first consideration is the type of oil that works best for your mower.
SAE 30 is a single-grade oil that is usually recommended for use under warm temperature conditions. SAE 30 is typically used on older engines or on machines with smaller engines. 10W30 is a low-temperature viscosity that makes it ideal for easy cold-weather engine start-ups.
The main differences between SAE 30 and 5W30 are that the SAE 30 is a single-grade type, that can be used for small engines, and would generate in warm weather. On the other hand, 5W30 is a multiple-grade type, that can be used for larger engines, tolerating extreme weather.
SAE 30 is ideal for small engines, such as lawnmowers. On the other hand, SAE 40 is better suited for larger engines, such as farm equipment, commercial vehicles, and passenger cars.
One of the biggest advantages of using 10W30 oils is that they can sometimes be used in place of SAE 30. While it is not recommended, doing so will not cause damage to the engine. This is due to the multi-grade oil properties that make this particular oil flexible enough to use in various temperature conditions.

Dont know what type of oil to use – Toro Power Lawn Mower
ANSWER : Put straight 30 weight motor oil in it. Not 10W30 or any multi-viscosity oil. Straight 30 weight motor oil. If you’re doing a complete oil change, then you may want to use Synthetic 30 weight, which will last longer between oil changes and also make your engine last longer (but it costs more too). The manual says to use 10-weight oil on the bar when the temperature is below 30. I can’t find any straight 10-weight oil anywhere, in stores or on line. Does any company make straight 10-weight oil? Where can I purchase it?
ANSWER : 10W is air tool oil, or fork oil for suspension tubes, there are some air tool oils that are 5W. Did they call it 10 weight, or 10W? 10W means 10Winter, 10W-30 is 10Winter-30 Weight

What kind of oil do I use in the oil reservoir of my chain saw?
ANSWER : I believe the reservoir you are talking about is for the bar chain oil. You can get it most anywhere. As for mixing the gas and oil mixture, you will need 2 cycle oil. It is available most everywhere also. Most modern chain saws use a 50:1 mixing ratio which means 2 1/2 ounces of oil to 1 gallon of gas. Hope this helps.
