SAE 10W-30 4-Cycle Lawn Mower Oil (20 oz)
Can You Use Synthetic Lawn Mower Oil? Yes! We have recently modified our engine oil recommendations to state that you may now use a synthetic 5W30 or 10W30 oil in all temperature ranges.
There is no difference between 4-cycle oil and regular engine oil; they are the same. Common engine oils used in lawnmowers are SAE30, 5W30, and 10W30. A lawnmower engine will start without oil, but you must never do so; even running it for a short time will cause serious engine damage.
The Full-Synthetic SAE 5W-30 SN Motor Oil is designed for 4-Cycle lawn mowers and snow blower engines.
OIL CAPACITY: 20 OZS.
Is SAE 30 Oil The Same As 10W-30? No. Unlike SAE 30, SAE 10W-30 is multi grade oil. SAE 10W-30 has SAE 10W viscosity at a lower temperature and SAE 30 viscosity at a hotter operating temp.
SAE-30 oil is often a safe bet for your mower, but it`s still worth referring to your owner`s manual since a lawnmower is no small investment. Since you won`t be mowing in the wintertime unless you have a landscaping emergency in colder temperatures, there`s no reason to use a multi-grade motor oil such as 5W-30.
Using a 40 weight engine oil instead of 30 weight isn`t going to hurt the engine. It may, however, it may affect your oil consumption. 5w-40 could be a big jump in viscosity. You want an oil that is thin enough so that the oil doesn`t cost you power yet thick enough to protect your engine.
Kawasaki 10W40 Synthetic Blend 4-cycle engine oil is designed to protect high operating 4-cycle engines against heat and wear. Formulated for easy starting in any weather, you can trust this fluid in any push lawnmower, rider or zero-turn engine requiring a 10W40 oil.
The most recommended craftsman lawnmower oil is SAE 10W-30. SAE 5W-30 is the most dependable oil for colder regions and improves mower performance and efficiency. Synthetic lawn mower oil lasts longer than traditional oils and can provide more time in-between oil changes.
Car oil is similar to lawn mower oil, and you can use it in lawn mowers with four-stroke engines. However, car oil has a high concentration of additives and can damage smaller engines. It`s also important to match base oils; otherwise, you risk damaging your lawn mower`s motor.
Use Briggs & Stratton SAE 30W Oil above 40°F (4°C) for all of our engines. Check oil level regularly. Air-cooled engines burn about an ounce of oil per cylinder, per hour. Fill to mark on dipstick.
The motor oil in your 6.5 horsepower Craftsman mower engine should have a viscosity rating of SAE 30 when the engine is run at temperatures above freezing (32 degrees Fahrenheit). Sears recommends use of SAE 5W-30 multi-viscosity motor oil for operation at temperatures below freezing.
According to Manuals Online, Craftsman trimmers take SAE 30 motor oil, which is the same type of oil you put in your car.
One of the most common options for oil when using a pressure washer are SAE 10W-30 and SAE 10W-40.
Can you use 5W-30 instead of 10W-30? Absolutely yes for car engines, 5W-30 is usually synthetic and superior to 10W-30. Both have the same viscosity at the operating temperature of an average car engine. 5W has lower viscosity when cool and is considered better for the car engine during engine start.

Put straight 30 weight motor oil in it. Not 10W30 or any multi-viscosity oil. Straight 30 weight motor oil. If you’re doing a complete oil change, then you may want to use Synthetic 30 weight, which will last longer between oil changes and also make your engine last longer (but it costs more too). Best of luck to you.James

I have a Crafstman Riding mower model #917.273643. That ran fine one second, I shut it off for five minutes. When I went to start it back up it wouldn’t start. Cranks fine, checked the wires, fuse, and spark plug. The plug was dirty so I cleaned it. But I am not getting any spark. I bought a new plug still no spark. I also checked the plug on another motor and I had spark so the plug wasn’t bad. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this or what may be wrong?

Most likely you have a carb issue. Remove the carb(s) and supply fuel to them, when level, and see which is leaking. Drain and replace the oil, as it will be unable to lube properly.
