is connected to the coil brace so if I take out the carb I will lose the gap. Using a set of feeler gauges one leg is set at .003 and the other about .005. I believe these should be the same and since it did not run as well as I thought it should I would like to set this correctly. My guess would be about .004. Can anybody verify this? Thanks

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

As long as it is not less than 0.30mm, it will be OK. If the gap is too great, the engine may not start as easily. If the gap is too small (< 0.30mm), there is the risk that the coil and flywheel might touch as the flywheel heats up and expands when the engine is run.
Common armature gap ranges are . 006 – . 010″ and . 010 – .
For circular coils this spacing is equal to half the diameter of the coils; for square coils it is2 equal to 0.5445 times the length of a side.
The . 016″ gap is the most common for those running stock flywheels on Predator 212, 196 Clones, GX200 Hondas, Tillotson 196, 212 & 225 engines small blocks as well as big blocks and v-twins.
The Induction Coil has a 30 mm spark gap and can produce pulses of high voltage current.
Use the procedure below to measure the flywheel:

Measure the distance from the crankshaft mating side of the flywheel to the straight edge. The minimum thickness must not be less than 57.7 mm (2.27 in).

Many think the larger the gap, the better. However, if the gap is too large, and the ignition system can`t provide the voltage needed to spark across the gap, or turbulence in the combustion chamber blows out the spark, misfires will occur.
In turn, contact coils heat faster and has strong power then spaced coils under the same power. The heating speed of contact coils is concentrated in the middle position, so it is easier to burn vape cotton when power is slightly too high. On the contrary, each wrap of spaced coils is same in heating speed.
A proper spark plug gap is crucial to an ignition system and the health of an ignition coil. A worn or excessive gap will cause an ignition coil to work overtime, using more voltage to bridge the gap and create a spark inside the cylinder.
Many think the larger the gap, the better. However, if the gap is too large, and the ignition system can`t provide the voltage needed to spark across the gap, or turbulence in the combustion chamber blows out the spark, misfires will occur.
The safety gap used on multi cylinder magnetos which incorporate a distributor Is often located between the pickup and the body, underneath the arch of the horseshoe magnet. Another location for the safety gap on multi cylinder magnetos is on the rotor arm underneath the distributor cap.

What is the gap setting for the coil to flywheel on a mini mac 6? I have the engine out of the case and need to clean and readjust the carb. I have a husqvarna 323L string trimmer. I stored it after running the tank & carb dry for about two years. I fueled it, then started it, & it ran for a minute then died like I turned the switch off. Since it would not restart, I found the fuel filter had broken off the hardened fuel line & it sucked gummy crap out of the tank & into the carb. Failing at cleaning the carb, I finally put a new carb on it & replaced the pump, hoses & filter. It has ran good till this year. I winterized it with stabilizer & left it with a full tank over the winter. The gas in the tank was gone when I got ready to use it this year. I filled the tank with premix, checked for leaks, then started it. It would run fine for about half a tank, start idling poorly (lean) then cutoff & refuse to restart till I refilled the tank. I finally found the tank had cracks & was letting pressure out of the tank & apparently this was causing the carb to lose it’s ability to siphon gas out of the tank. So I replaced the tank which came with new hoses & a filter, which I properly installed to the carb. It cranked right up, but when it runs a half tank, the carb quits sucking gas out of the tank. When I pump to prime the carb, it moves the fuel into the carb, but the pump never gets hard like it does when I prime the carb when the motor is cold. I have to keep refilling the tank, prime, & then it starts & runs until the tank gets about half empty. The new fuel filter is down in the gas tank properly, but It will not run after it shuts off until I refill the tank & prime. I’m baffled. New tank, new hoses, new filter, new carb, & I can find no leaks in the fuel system. It runs strong. The 323L is a two-stroke & it always cranks on the second pull from cold on a full tank. Any ideas?

No spark 5 hp Tecumseh engine has no spark. This is what I have done. 1- I checked for a short or grounded kill switch. 2-I removed the coil and cleaned the contacts and flywheel magnets and reset the air gap with a business card. 3- I checked the keyway and it is ok.. The only thing left is the coil and I dont know how to check it. This engine only has about 5 hours on it and I cant believe that a coil is bad but it could be. Is there a way to ckeck the coil with it off the engine like resistance or some other way. Please help me with your professional advice
ANSWER : Hi
You need a special tester to test a coil off of the engine. If you take iit to a small engine shop they can test it for you. You can test it on the engine. First clean the surface of the coil where it mounts to the engine. Reinstall the coil. Do not install the kill wire to the coil. Install a inline spark tester and crank engine if you still don’t have any spark the coil is bad.
