How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

1:25 = 1 part oil + 25 parts petrol, or 40 ml oil per litre of petrol when using other brands of oil. Any two-stroke engine oil you use in your petrol gardening tool must have the TC classification.
Always use high-quality petrol with a minimum octane number of 90 RON (we recommend using unleaded to protect your health and the environment).
A minimum of 87 octane/87 AKI (91 RON); If operating at high altitude, see below. Gasoline with up to 10% ethanol (gasohol) or up to 15% MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether), is acceptable. Some fuel stations are now selling gasoline with up to 15% ethanol.
Use a 32:1 gasoline to oil ratio.
A fuel / oil ratio of 50:1 is recommended for all Husqvarna 2-stroke products.
All STIHL gasoline-powered equipment uses a 50:1 gas and oil mixture.
If you`re using a different brand of 2-Stroke oil, you`ll need to mix at 25:1 (40mls oil per 1 litre fuel). Petrol has limited shelf life (as low as 30 days), so always mix with fresh regular unleaded purchased from a reputable large volume fuel supplier.
If you realise that your mix isn`t right, the best thing is to stop your machine and drain the fuel. Mix some fuel that is at the correct ratio, clean any air filters and make good. If it is an incorrect mixture over a prolonged time then it`s not good news.
25 cc to 40 cc brushcutters are a good intermediate between brushcutting and a bit of trimming. And for heavy duty work like corse grass or a lot of weeds to cut then 40 cc to 55cc will bethe best range.
What Type Of Oil For a Lawn Mower? While automotive engine oil, such as 10W-30 or 10W-40, can be used in a lawn mower engine, it is generally recommended that SAE 30 motor oil be used.
It`s best to use ethanol-free gas in small engines. If you do decide to use ethanol, don`t use a fuel that is more than 10% ethanol (E10), and be sure to add fuel treatment to prevent the fuel from separating.
Many two-cycle models require a 40:1 gas-to-oil ratio (i.e. 3.2 fluid ounces of two-cycle oil for every one gallon of gas), but some older models may require a 50:1 or 30:1 ratio. The equipment`s recommended ratio is usually listed on the engine housing.
Your strimmer runs off a mix of semi-synthetic 2-stroke oil and unleaded petrol (40:1). Our petrol tools come with a measuring jug with guide lines. Find the side marked 40:1, add your petrol to the first line and your 2-stroke oil to the second. Replace the jugs lid and shake the mixture for around a minute.
What is the ratio for 2-stroke fuel mix? Most modern petrol garden machinery requires a 50:1 ratio mix of petrol to oil. This means for every 1 litre of petrol you must mix 20ml of oil.
For example to mix 50:1 you use 50 parts fuel to 1 part oil, which equals one litre of fuel to 20 millilitres of oil.
If your manufacturer recommends a 50:1 fuel/oil mix, it means you need 50 parts of gas to one part two-stroke oil. To mix one gallon of fuel at 50:1, add 2.6 ounces of two-stroke oil to one gallon of gas, as shown in the chart below.
Mix at 50:1 (20mls oil per 1 litre fuel) when you`re using STIHL 2-Stroke oil. To prolong the life of your 2-Stroke fuel mix you can add STIHL fuel stabiliser to extend the fuel`s shelf life up to 12 months. 15ml of STIHL fuel stabiliser will treat 5 litres of fuel.
Thus a solvent to oil ratio of 3 to 1 is considered the optimum ratio in this study because it gives good ash reduction, good oil recovery and low cost.
