All most every one I have seen goes from the carb through a very small hole in the fuel tank to a filter inside the tank – There are two lines – replace both. As long as the line does not interfere with any moving parts you will be fine. Squeeze the throttle lever to move the carb linkage to see if the fuel line clears the linkage. If you can’t find the hole; pour some fuel in the tank and roll the saw around until you discover where it is leaking from.
The real trick is getting the new light green or yellow colored fuel
line thru the hole in the plastic or metal fuel tank.
These fuel lines come in sever different diameters – make sure you
get the correct size – save your old line and take it to Ace hardware or Tractor supply. Now for the big trick – an old timer showed me – cut the fuel line at an angle so a narrow section will
fit into the hole then use a pair of surgical forceps i.e hemostat to pull it through the hole. I could not get needle nose pliers to work for me. Also it is a good idea to rebuild the carb and replace the rubber gasket on the fuel filler cap and the rubber primer bulb if you have one on your engine. The leaking will drive you nuts.
Also make certain to use non-ethanol fuel in ANY engine with a carburetor. Forget about the additives – they plain just don’t work – trust me – I’ve tested most of them. Check all of the complaints about Stabil.
I have replaced lots of these fuel lines for guys who said they used
an ethanol corrective additive without good results. There is a site that gives locations in every state where non ethanol fuel can be purchased – just google “locate not ethanol fuel”. It is usually only .75 cents more a gallon than the 10% ethanol fuel that fuel injected autos use.
How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

Fuel line size: ID x OD:3/32“ x 3/16“-2 feet long, ID x OD:0.08“ x 0.14“-2 feet long.
The yellow fuel line is 3/32-inch ID x 3/16-inch OD x one foot long and the blue fuel line is 1/16-inch ID x 1/8-inch OD x one foot long. The fuel line fits Blowers, Chainsaws, Trimmers and other gas-powered equipment that use this size fuel line.

The (clear) fuel intake line runs from the top of the carburetor (straight nipple) and goes to the short post on the back of the primer bulb. The return line (blue) comes from the long post on the back of the primer bulb and goes into the bottom of the fuel tank.
In gasoline cars in U.S., the return line was the fuel flow outlet of a back-pressure regulator on the fuel injector rail on top of the engine. It flowed back into the fuel tank.
Most modern chainsaws, string trimmers, leaf blowers and other small-engine two-stroke equipment recommend a 50:1 oil mix ratio, but some recommend 40:1 and older two-stroke equipment might even call for 32:1.
Most chainsaws have two fuel lines – one that feeds fuel into the carburetor and a return tube that allows unused fuel to flow back into the chainsaw gas tank.
McCulloch Today
In 1999 McCulloch sold its European division to Husqvarna AB. Nine years later, Husqvarna also acquired the rights to the McCulloch brand on the North American market. Since then, McCulloch is a brand within the Husqvarna Group.
Every fuel line experiences pressure loss depending on fuel line length, and fuel flow rate.
Use a 7/16 inch and 9/16 inch wrench to tighten the quick connect fuel adapter to the fuel line SAE swivel fitting between 1/4 – 1/3 turn past finger tight (Figure 3). Overtightening can damage the fitting.

Replaceing fuel line in polan 3300 chain saw – Poulan Pro 42CC 2 Cycle Chainsaw, 18"
ANSWER : Hi owjbhend…
Use a piece of wire and insert it into the fuel line, then bend a hook in the end and hook it over the end of the fuel line…lubricate the fuel line with some vaseoline very lightly…about the first one inch of the fuel line and then use your fingers to start the fuel line into the tank, once you have the fuel line in the tank give enough to hook the fuel filter to and so it can be dropped back into the tank.
Below is a drawing of how to route the fuel lines.

Poulan te 450 cxl fuel lines need routed correctly two line both in tank one to fuel filter other line?
ANSWER : Other line is just left open like to send gas back from the carb.
The saw starts up fine, runs fine but not for long. it runs for about 1 minute and dies. like it is out of fuel or sucking air, i noticed there is no filter on the suction line and there is another nipple entering the fuel tank which appears to need a hose on it , is this just a return line, or should the long line in side the tank press on to this nipple? thanks,
ANSWER : I’ve had my pp4218 for about 2 years and the fuel lines have rotted. I’m thinging from ethanol in the gas. However, I’m replacing them and cannot tell which lines go where. Does the large line from the bubble go to the filter and the little line return?
Routing of fuel lines from tank to primer bulb to carb
ANSWER : Line with filter goes to carb inlet,
Line from carb goes to inlet side of bulb.
Line from bulb goes to tank
Where can I get a fuel line routing diagram? – Husqvarna 28cc Hand Held Blower HVH 125B
ANSWER : Just go from the fuel tank straight to the carb and the primer. The pipes are a set length so you don’t have to worry about threading it all around the blower.. just take the most direct route from the tank to the carb..!
I need to replace to fuel lines on a Craftman 32cc trimmer. The old ones cracked apart. 2 of the lines look like 1/8″ OD one line looks like 3/32″ OD. Larger line looks like it hooks to filter, Smaller line to a fitting in the gas tank. I am assuming the smaller line ges to the primer inlet. My question is the lines penetrate the bottom of the gas tank. How do they seal. How do I install the filter and the fitting. I am assuming to thread the new lines in from the bottom of the tank and pull through the gas cap hole. Then I attach filter or fitting and pull back through. So do I pull the line so as to create a seal from the swell caused by the fitting/filter?
ANSWER : Depending on the brand of line you use, Tygon line is self sealing but seems to shrink faster then factory supplied because of the ethanol in the gas. The stone gas filter is designed to fall to the lowest part of the tank, not stop the line from falling out.
Gas lines crumbled and don’t know how to route new lines correctly
ANSWER : The small diameter line out of fuel tank (has filter in-tank on end) connects directly to the side of the carburetor that has the fuel pump….that is the cover without the hole in it. Other larger diameter fuel line out of tank connects to the longer nipple on the external purge/primer bulb. The bulb “pulls” fresh fuel from the fuel tank to the carb and then out of the carb to itself, where it then “pushes” any air/old fuel back into the fuel tank. The remaining larger diameter fuel line in this setup goes from the metering chamber (has cover with writing on it and a vent-hole) side of the carburetor to the smaller nipple on the purge/primer bulb. Again, on the primer bulb, the longer nipple has a line going directly from it to the tank. This is the return line. The shorter nipple on the bub has a line from it going to the metering chamber side of the carb. If the purge/primer bulb is on top of the carb…small line from carb body to small hole in tank with filter. Larger diameter line goes from the bulb on the fuel pump side of the carb to the larger hole in the fuel tank where sometimes the line is held in place with a nylon nipple connector that keeps the line from pulling out of the tank. Otherwise, the line should enter the tank for about 1/2″ or so.
How do i gey new fuel line through case and into tank?
ANSWER : Is there a metal fitting on the tank top that will unscrew? If so, pull the old line out with the fitting (remove the filter first). Be sure to use original type line, not plastic which is not flexible enough. Hope this helps!
