I am getting no fire at spark plug on my Bolens BL410 21A-121R965 tiller and I suspect the coil to flywheel gap is to large. Does anyone know what the gap should be?

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

As long as it is not less than 0.30mm, it will be OK. If the gap is too great, the engine may not start as easily. If the gap is too small (< 0.30mm), there is the risk that the coil and flywheel might touch as the flywheel heats up and expands when the engine is run.
For circular coils this spacing is equal to half the diameter of the coils; for square coils it is2 equal to 0.5445 times the length of a side.
The . 016″ gap is the most common for those running stock flywheels on Predator 212, 196 Clones, GX200 Hondas, Tillotson 196, 212 & 225 engines small blocks as well as big blocks and v-twins.
Common armature gap ranges are . 006 – . 010″ and . 010 – .
A proper spark plug gap is crucial to an ignition system and the health of an ignition coil. A worn or excessive gap will cause an ignition coil to work overtime, using more voltage to bridge the gap and create a spark inside the cylinder.
Many think the larger the gap, the better. However, if the gap is too large, and the ignition system can`t provide the voltage needed to spark across the gap, or turbulence in the combustion chamber blows out the spark, misfires will occur.
If the gap is too small, the spark will likely be too weak and cause the engine to run poorly or with poor efficiency.

What should the spark plugs be gapped at? When running a magneto ignition it is not necessary to run a wide spark plug gap due to the longer duration of spark. We recommend that you set your plugs anywhere from 0.018” to 0.025” with the closer gaps being used for higher RPM applications.
The Induction Coil has a 30 mm spark gap and can produce pulses of high voltage current.
When replacing spark plugs, ensuring that the plugs have the proper gap is critical to engine performance. The gap is the distance between the center and side electrodes, set so arcing occurs at the proper voltage that ignites the fuel and generates the combustion that makes the engine run.
The standard air gap in an electric motor is typically about 0.020-0.050 inches. In most design processes, there is give-and-take to the amount of air gap designed into the motor. A wider air gap increases the rotor-stator alignment tolerances, easing installation.

The safety gap used on multi cylinder magnetos which incorporate a distributor Is often located between the pickup and the body, underneath the arch of the horseshoe magnet. Another location for the safety gap on multi cylinder magnetos is on the rotor arm underneath the distributor cap.

No spark I have a roto hoe rototeler that has a tecumsek engine and there is no spark
ANSWER : No spark can be several things but begin with the easiest first.

Ensure the grounding wire (thin black wire) that connects to the coil is not grounded.
Ensure sure the plug wire end is connected well to the plug wire, some of these clamp the wire interior cord to the metal wire end by wrapping and crimping around the plug wire.
Make sure the ignition generator coil is not scrubbing against the flywheel, there should be .030 air gap between the coil and the flywheel magnets.
If you are mechanically savy, remove the flywheel and inspect the breaker points, replace/adjust as needed.

Replacing coil pack need to know space from mag
ANSWER : Ignition module gap Place a business or index card between the fly wheel and coil, rotate until the magnetic attraction pulls everything tight together. Tighten the coil screws, rotate the flywheel until the attraction eases and remove the card. Ensure nothing contacts when flywheel is rotated.

No spark I have replaced the ignition coil, set the gap at .014,verfied continuity between the plug wire and the plug but , no spark! Even held the wire in my hand, grounded myself to the engine and tried to feel for some life ! Help me
ANSWER : Leave your killswitch wire not hooked up and try?
check the flywheel key way and be sure it is aligned perfectly with the key way on the crankshaft
if it is you are in time
if not its out of time (timing off)
since it didnt work with the air gap at .014 go closer and set at .012 and see what happens
be sure to adj. the air gap at the magnet part of the flywheel and ign. module and secure module at a setting you want
