How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Husqvarna`s Full Synthetic 10W-30 4-Stroke engine oil is a premium oil blend designed for tough, commercial use.
Honda recommends using 10W30 oil that meets API service category SJ or later.
Husqvarna recommends using full-synthetic 10w-30 oil in their lawn mowers. This blend of oil is perfect for push-behind lawn mowers, tractors, and zero-turn mowers. Whether it`s for residential or commercial use, this oil will provide the best engine protection.
Is SAE 30 Oil The Same As 10W-30? No. Unlike SAE 30, SAE 10W-30 is multi grade oil. SAE 10W-30 has SAE 10W viscosity at a lower temperature and SAE 30 viscosity at a hotter operating temp.
But as a general guide, a fuel-to-oil ratio of 50:1 is recommended for Husqvarna products up to and including 75cc. That comes out to 2.5 fluid ounces of oil per 1 gallon of gas. In certain heavy-use applications, models above 75cc may be run on a mix of 33:1.
Two-stroke (two-cycle) engines require you to mix the oil with the gas in exact amounts so the oil acts as a lubricant for the crankcase, while four-stroke engines take oil and gas separately.
The recommended ratio of fuel mix is 1 part oil to 50 parts petrol. For example, if you are using 5L of petrol, you will need 0.1L (100ml) of 2 Stroke Oil. To mix the fuel, pour the 2 Stroke engine oil into a mixing can that is approved for use with fuel, then add the petrol.
Husqvarna`s Oil Guard Oil is a synthetic blend designed for power cutters and other 2-stroke tools used in the toughest and dirtiest conditions.
A 20W50 runs cooler than 10W30 engine oil. 20W50 is also better at blocking out heat, making it stronger at preventing engine failure. The 20W50 has a thicker consistency and flows more slowly than 10W30, while the 10W30 has a thinner consistency and flows faster than 20W50.
The HP two stroke oil is a part synthetic oil with additives that gives a cleaner engine and less coating on the piston/cylinder walls, exhaust port and crankcase.
Use a 40:1 two-cycle oil mix ratio. One gallon of gasoline combined with 3.2 oz of two-cycle engine oil. Unsure of the age of your equipment? Use the 40:1 mixture.
The recommendation for units with four-cycle engines would be to use 5W-20 or 5W-30 weight oil due to the thickness (viscosity) that it has.
Use a 40:1 two-cycle oil mix ratio. One gallon of gasoline combined with 3.2 oz of two-cycle engine oil. Unsure of the age of your equipment? Use the 40:1 mixture.

What type of oil does it use? – Troy-Bilt 4-Cycle Curve Shaft Gas String Trimmer #41ADT41C966
ANSWER : I think all of these 4-stroke trimmers use SAE 30HD oil. I recommend synthetic. If you use synthetic, you can get away with using a multi-viscosity like 10W-30 if you can’t find straight SAE30 synthetic, but don’t use muti-viscosity conventional oil in these machines.

The tb475ss trimmer will not start. – Troy-Bilt 4-Cycle Curve Shaft Gas String Trimmer #41ADT41C966
ANSWER : It is difficult to diagnose a no start problem without the machine being on hand. You need to check for blue spark, fresh oil and fuel and a clean air filter. You also need to verify that the engine isn’t worn out and that it has compression. To try and get it to start, remove the air filter and squirt some aerosol type carburetor/choke cleaner into the opening to the carburetor. If it runs a few seconds, that is good and eliminates some of the causes. It may just need a good carburetor cleaning. Post back with results.

Do you mix the gas and oil together with the Troy-Bilt4 cycle TB575SS. Lost directions. Thank you
ANSWER : No. You do that for a 2-stroke engine. Your engine should have oil in the crankcase and you just need to check the level of it and add gas to it like a regular lawnmower engine.

What type of oil does a troy built tiller use? I have lost my book.
ANSWER : This is dependent upon what the engine application on the tiller is. If it’s 2-stroke, use a quality synthetic or semi-synthetic 2-stroke oil mixed with the gas. If it has a 4 stroke engine use SAE30 oil, unless you run synthetic (which I highly recommend), then you can use a multi-viscosity oil if you like, say 10W-30.
