Primer bulbs do not work well if there is lots of air and no fuel. I spent over one hour getting my new boat primed. You might try running the hose and bulb to a can of gas (lots of things can go bad with can of gas, be careful) and see if the motor will fill and firm up the bulb.
Remove the air filter and spray carburetor cleaner into the intake. Let it sit for several minutes to help loosen and dissolve varnish. Replace the filter and try starting the trimmer. If this doesn`t solve the problem, consider disassembling the carburetor to give it a more thorough cleaning.
ANSWER: The primer bulb, which is located in the fuel line between the gas tank and the engine, is used to fill the carburetor with fuel when the engine is started cold.
The (clear) fuel intake line runs from the top of the carburetor (straight nipple) and goes to the short post on the back of the primer bulb. The return line (blue) comes from the long post on the back of the primer bulb and goes into the bottom of the fuel tank.
When your trimmer starts and runs on choke, it could be because the check valve in the gas cap is clogged. Start the trimmer and gently unscrew the gas cap halfway off. Turn the choke off and assess. If the engine is still running, that means the gas cap may be the culprit.
If your trimmer engine idles, but stalls on throttle, check the following parts: the gasket, primer bulb, fuel filter, air filter, fuel vent, fuel line, and carburetor. The repair and symptom guide will help you better identify the part needed to be replaced and how.
If petrol is coming out of your primer bulb, this means that it is backing up in your carburettor and flowing out of the primer tube. The float-valve in your carburettor has most likely got stuck and just needs to be adjusted.

Like others have said… its either the tank is not open on the vent, or bad primer bulb or connection of the hose to tank or motor could also fail.

I just put new fuel line on my trimmer now i cant start it not getting fuel the line never fills with fuel but i can **** fuel out so i know it not pinched it a weedeater brand ght-17
Make sure the little valve under the tank if you have one is fully turned clockwise. Make sure there is nothing clogging the tiny screen inside the fuel tank. Check or test your primer bulb it may be leaky. If carb or intake is leaking, you won’t get gas either. If you have a filter on this model, try changing it.

Without more info it’s hard to say. This could be something as simple as a dirty lid “o” ring, if it is streched out or cracked you will need a new one. If not you can clean with dish soap then when you relube “o” ring use teflon or silicone grease then wipe excess off as this excess will collect dirt, also clean lip of pump pot also. If this is not the problem then you may need to replumb pump or replace seal. When you loose prime if the pump runs for any lenigth of time the water left in pot will overheat and cause plumbing to warp or seal falure.
Priming bulb failing to pull fuel from tank. Pumping bulb makes bubbles in tank. I can prime motor by pumping bulb when unit is tilted on the bulb side. Once put upright, it burns gas in bulb and dies.
I examined bulb and feeder tubes and believe they are good, but I am lost with what is wrong.

sounds like you need to go through the carby and rekit it , make sure all the passages are clear and replace the welch plugs and check passages under them too and replace the purge prime valve assy that the primer bulb and flange connect to as you mentioned pick up and return lines are ok with no cracks or splits , make sure the tank breather is ok as well as the tank filter not blocked / restrictred thats about all i can think of

Troybilt trimmer primer bulb collapses. it will start occasionally but will only run a few minutes.i have replaced the primer bulb and gas lines and still have the same problems.
It should have a small vent in the fule tank cap if its blocked the primer bulb will be sucked in as the fule pump can **** any fule from the tank

Where do you put the line from the gas tank I have A mcCulloch weedeater the tank have two lines it all so have A primer
One line is a return line short, the other is connected to the filter and to the carb fuel intake. The primer bulb will not fill if they are reversed.
