Bilt Tb70ss Gas Trimmer

Weed eater (TB70SS) would not run. I bought new spark plug and it ran great for half an hour. It stopped running and would not start again. I noticed that the new plug looked like it had oil all over it. I took it out, wiped it off, and put it back in but the trimmer still won’t start.

Sounds like you may just have a dirty carburetor.Youwill need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner.Make sure the small screen is free of debris. (Should be able to seedaylight through it.)Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152),to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start. If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.If you need further assistance, just let me know.Jim

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Remove the air filter and spray carburetor cleaner into the intake. Let it sit for several minutes to help loosen and dissolve varnish. Replace the filter and try starting the trimmer. If this doesn`t solve the problem, consider disassembling the carburetor to give it a more thorough cleaning.
The air filter may be clogged or dirty. If the air filter is clogged, the engine will get too much fuel and not enough air. As a result, the engine may stall. If the air filter is clogged, replace it.
When your trimmer starts and runs on choke, it could be because the check valve in the gas cap is clogged. Start the trimmer and gently unscrew the gas cap halfway off. Turn the choke off and assess. If the engine is still running, that means the gas cap may be the culprit.
If debris or residue from old fuel has entered the fuel filter, it could be so clogged that fresh fuel simply cannot reach the combustion chamber which can prevent your weed eater to start again. If your fuel filter is inside the fuel tank, you will likely need professional service.
Put on the choke, prime three times, waiting 4 seconds between each prime. Pull on the starter rope a couple of times until you hear the engine begin. It should rev up a little then stop because choke is still on. Pull the rope again with choke off a few times and the engine should start.
If the carburetor is new or has been rebuilt, you should set it to “factory” adjustment. You can do so by adjusting the idle mixture screws to 1.5-2 turns out, and the idle speed screw to 1-1.5 turns in. Warm the Engine Up. The engine`s running temperature directly correlates with proper air and fuel mixtures.
If your trimmer engine idles, but stalls on throttle, check the following parts: the gasket, primer bulb, fuel filter, air filter, fuel vent, fuel line, and carburetor. The repair and symptom guide will help you better identify the part needed to be replaced and how.

My weed eater hedge trimmer runs for about 10 minutes and cuts off. It seems as though it is flooded, because it won’t start again until some time later. But it continues with the same pattern.
