To push a riding mower equipped with hydrostatic drive it will be necessary to disengage the fluid drive by activating the manual bypass valve. The activation of the manual bypass valve will allow the axles to roll freely by diverting the flow of fluid around the drive pump system.
If the engine dies when the blades engage, it could be the result of a damaged safety switch. The first step in assessing the safety switch is to make sure it is plugged in securely. The switch is located underneath the seat, and you may have to remove the seat to reach it.
What`s happening? This is a normal function of the seat safety switch. With the blades engaged, weight from the operator allows the seat safety switch to keep the engine running.
Although cavitation is much more common with hydraulic systems, it can also seriously damage hydrostatic transmissions. Caused when gases in the fluid vaporize, it`s characterized by noisy, erratic transmission operation.
Is a Hydrostatic Transmission Better? This largely depends on how you intend to use your tractor. If you`re a hobby farmer who needs a front-end loader for level, small-scale landscaping, a hydrostatic vs manual tractor is best for you. Its smaller size, flexibility, and ease of use can accomplish a variety of tasks.
The spark plugs are worn or damaged

If you find that your lawnmower keeps dying, or keeps stalling while cutting grass, then inspect the spark plugs. Look for signs of damage or wear. Something as simple as a cracked porcelain insulator can mean an electrode has been damaged or burned away.

Husqvarna Long Life Safety Blades should be replaced every 6-8 weeks and Husqvarna Endurance Safety Blades every 3-4 months. Replacing your Automower® blades is relatively straightforward. If you`re not sure how to do it, it`s always best to have your Elite Automower® Dealer do it for you.

I started the mower but the blades will not turn. I shut it off and was able to manually turn the blades by hand. I also was able to turn the belt wheel under the engine and have it turn the blades. With it running and me on the seat, they don’t turn. With it running; brake engaged; and I pull the mower switch to engage them, the mower wants to die. Two questions: Is there a swtich on the seat to insure the blades can not turn while no one is on the seat? Is there a key between the belt wheel and the PTO shaft that needs to be replaced? Thank you.
ANSWER : Most all riders have a safety seat switch now and they do malfuction alot. They are under the seat and are ez to replace most of the time. First look for a wire that is grounding due to rubbing a sharp object. That can be fixed with black tape

My PTO switch does nothing – blades do not engage – how do I fix? I pull up the switch and nothing happens. Model is YTH2448T serial # is 279200, I think it is a 2006 model. Help – please.
ANSWER : With test light check for power at the switch and at the plug of the pto. There might also be a fuse blown. You can always check the pto by jumping power from the battery to the pto with engine off and you can hear it click and see it move to verify that pto is not the problem.
