How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

The letters on the screws represent High (H), Low (L) and Idle (T). The H screw regulates the Air/Fuel mix during high RPMs, while the L Screw does the same during low RPMs. The T screw regulates how much fuel is sent to the carburettor while idling until the throttle is pressed.
Once the engine has arrived at operating temperature, go back to the carburetor and adjust the air fuel mixture screw, or screws. Tightening the screw increases the amount of fuel, while loosening decreases the amount of fuel.
To adjust L-screw, pull on inner wire and shift outward one sprocket, then release inner wire to shift inward. Tighten L-screw until shifting is slow, then turn counter-clockwise 1/4 turn until good shifting is restored. The process above sets the limits to the tightest setting that still shifts well.
Or it won`t shift far enough, whatever you do to the cable tension. You need to adjust the high (H) and low (L) limit screws on the derailleur. Viewed from behind the bike, the H screw limits how far the derailleur can move to the right, while the L screw limits how far the derailleur can move to the left.
If the pulley moves past the largest cog toward the spokes, turn the limit screw marked ā€œLā€ clockwise to tighten. Shift into the second largest cog in the cassette. If you cannot shift into this gear, you likely have a cable tension issue.
This method involves looking at the base of the spark plug insulator (white part of the plug) for a slight coloring on the insulator just above where the insulator comes through the steel case. If the mixture is too lean, it will leave no color, while a rich mixture will cause the fuel ring to become more prominent.
If an engine is hard to start, barely idles, coughs, bogs, sputters or stumbles every time the throttle opens, gets horrible fuel economy, spews black carbon from the tailpipe or never seems to run very well, chances are the carburetor needs to be tuned.
Improper carburetor float level setting or excessive fuel pressure can cause a rich idle condition. A carburetor power valve opening prematurely because of an incorrect vacuum opening point (indicated by the number printed on the valve) or insufficient idle vacuum can make the situation worse.
Typically, there`s a 12:1 or 15:1 ratio of air to fuel, and when there`s too much air or not enough fuel, it causes sneezing or popping sounds in the intake.
Turn the high speed or main jet screw clockwise until the engine begins to slow. Then, turn the screw the other way until the engine begins to slow. Turn the screw back to the midpoint. Once adjusted, check engine acceleration by moving the throttle from idle to fast.

Poulin p3314 gas runs out carb
ANSWER : Set the H and L jet screws CW to stops (lightly), then CCW 1-3/4 turns each. This is a basic setting and both need to be turned CW somewhat when the engine runs. Recheck the lower chamber in the carburetor for correct installation of the needle, seat, spring, fulcrum, and diaphragm. Go to: www.drystacked.com for a detailed look at Walbro brand carburetors. Even if you do not have a Walbro carburetor, the principles are much the same. Make sure the fuel tank vent is open.

The saw carb adjustment has a high and a low but they only turn haft turn how do i set them
ANSWER : If in the USA I would tell you to thank the EPA. I suspect you are in the UK, I do not know who to throw rocks at there. Some newer carburetors no longer have springs to maintain the needle settings, without the caps adjustment becomes a constant nightmare. There are tools available through eBay (search for Walbro tool).

Husky starting point “H” and “L” 1 turn CCW from lightly seated. If running and you just want to tweak it a little just follow this. it is the most helpful adjustment procedure I have found.

CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.
There are 2 wav (sound – idle & full – may not be highlighted) files that I find most helpful, I think you will too. HTH

Constant tweaking may be camouflaging an air leak. Pressure tests are the only sure way to diagnose those. Air leaks undetected may destroy your saw.

ANSWER : I have exactly the same problem. Has anyone an answer as to how to fix the problem? I can keep turning the knob from choke to medium choke to keep engine from stalling but it is a constant battle to keep engine going.
