How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
If the seat is attached with a traditional metal bolt and metal nut, grab your socket wrench and fit it over the long bolt that grips the nut. Turn the nut counterclockwise to unscrew. If it won`t budge, spray with rust penetrant and wait five or ten minutes for the spray to work.
Well, the `tension` feature is a knob which can be adjusted to increase or decrease the force needed to tilt. So, a tension tilt feature essentially allows you to decide how much you want to recline on a chair, and how much force is needed to do so.
Tension is adjusted by the knob located under the chair. It is often directly in front of the chair stem, which means leaning forward in the chair to reach the knob. In some executive style chairs the knob is under the side of the seat, which means leaning to the side of the chair to reach.
Tiny nail and screw holes are the easiest to fix. Use a putty knife to fill them with spackling or wall joint compound. Allow the area to dry, then sand lightly. Anything larger must be covered with a bridging material for strength before patching compound can be applied.
Assuming that the screws don`t feel loose when you remove them due to inadequate length or pilot holes that are too large, you can reuse the holes.
The small screws needed for hinges strip out pilot holes easily. Fortunately a little cyanoacrylate (CA) glue fixes them just as easily. Simply fill the stripped hole with CA glue, let it cure for a couple minutes, and re-install the screw. It works for any size screw and any type of wood.

Self propelled feature stopped functining. I previously replaced the wheels after the gears had worn down. Now I can’t get any response to engaging the self-propelled cable.
ANSWER : Have you checked the drive belt? There should be a belt running from the main shaft (above blade) out to the wheel drive. You didn’t list model number but I’m assuming it’s front wheel drive. There should be a cover over this belt so it might be hard to see from underneath. Also there should be a cover on top going to the drive transmission. If the belt is OK, check to be sure lever is moving the transmission lever.

I have a Toro walk behind self propeled mower. Last summer my sons hit something which made the mower stop running. I was told that I needed to replace somesort of key…? How…? How do I get the top off. It’s cast and I don’t want to break it. Is there a trick to getting this off without breaking it. Is this the problem I need to be looking at…? Dave
ANSWER : Was it the ‘flywheel key’ ? Does it yank the rope out of your hand violently when you try to start it?
Take the top shroud off, remove the flywheel nut, washer and screen. Remove the flywheel by threading the nut back onto the crank end to protect the threads and with a brass hammer ( and while lightly prying with a screwdriver from behind the flywheel) and a few good solid taps on the end of the crankshaft the flywheel should free up.
Remove the flywheel and inspect the key. Even .001th off will make the motor run funny or not at all.
