The “Deck Belt” goes around the pulleys right above the blades on the deck and then to a double pulley. The “Drive Belt” on your mower goes from the transmission, around an Idler pulley then over to the double pulley I mentioned before. The Drive belt also plays a role in making the wheels turn.
The top belt is the power clutch belt, also known as the PTO (power takeoff) belt. This is the easier one to replace because it`s on top and has a spring-loaded hand lever to remove the belt from the lawn mower for deck removal. The lower belt on the deck is called the arbor belt.
An easy way to determine belt size is to simply “add 2″ to your off-the-rack trouser size. For example, if you wear a 36” waist trouser, then a 38 belt size will be a safe bet. Most will find this simple formula works best for pants worn at a traditional height–close to the natural waistline.
Put on a pair of pants that fits well and stand in a relaxed position. Then wrap a soft tape measure through the belt loops so the tape is snug but not too tight. This measurement is your belt size. You may need to round up to the nearest even-numbered inch.
Small sizes measure between 26 to 30 inches, while large sizes are around 46 to 50 inches. Belts for men who wear a 34 measure 34 inches from the far end (all fashion rights reserved). Avoid generalizing belt measurements as these vary considerably.
Overall the Kevlar v belts are stronger and standout as the primary choice for several applications.
Notched belts can use the same pulleys as cross-section standard V-belts. They run cooler, last longer, and are about 2% more efficient than standard V-belts. Synchronous belts (also called cogged, timing, positive-drive, or high-torque drive belts) are toothed and require the installation of mating grooved sprockets.
There is no specific time length that mower belts need to be replaced. Some belts may last longer than others due to different operating conditions. One thing is for certain though, the more the mower is used, the sooner you will need to consider replacing the mower belt.
There are two belts you need to be familiar with when talking about car maintenance — the serpentine belt and the timing belt.
The PTO (or power take-off) belt is part of a pulley system that operates the blades on your riding lawn mower. It runs off the electric clutch system in your engine.
Multiply the inch measurement by 2.54 to find your belt size in cm. Men`s pant sizes are usually one size smaller than their belt size. For example, a 36-inch waist will correspond to a 38-inch belt size.

I can’t remove the main pulley on the motor
ANSWER : Instead of spending all day banging on it all day and getting frustrated i usually run down to the local auto parts shop and borrow a puller, most places these days has a lending library where you have pay a deposit and once you bring back the tool they will give you your cash back. Best way to make sure it comes off without damaging it out of frustration. use a few squirts of penetrating fluid before you go and it will help as well.

ANSWER : The best thing you can do is get the model # (probably under the seat of the machine) and go online to www.m-and-d.com and type in the model # and they’ll give you the correct belt for your machine (from there you can probably buy locally).
