If you see no line sticking out of the ports on the trimmer head, you may not have bump-fed the line often enough. Push the bump head down with one hand and pull out line with your other hand until you can touch the cutting guard with the tip of the line.
If this cap is broken or worn out over time, it can malfunction, causing too much line to feed out when you bump it. Depending on its damage, it could be getting hung up as it tries to return, allowing the line to continuously advance. To replace it, simply remove and replace the bump cap with a new one.
Most styles and weights are interchangeable, so you can use non-OEM (original equipment manufacturers) line. However, larger/heavier line may not fit every string trimmer.
Usually this is the result of the cutting head being taken too close to objects, e.g. garden stones, paving edges, walls etc. The cutting line must be allowed to rotate freely and the correct diameter and type of line should be used.
The most common problem with a string trimmer is that the unit runs out of string. The string may also be twisted or loose on the spool. The cutting head may be dirty or the head outlet guide may be bent. An electric trimmer`s power cord, switch, or motor may fail.
If the trimmer line is tangling, you may need to cut the grass or weeds in smaller sections from the top down. When cutting particularly tall or thick grass or weeds, the line can get tangled around the grass and cause a jam.

How do i replace a spool on the weedeater xt110. I cannot seem to get the spool to release and I do not have the owner’s manual.
Just line up the two arrows across from each other to those on the the spool housing on the bottom of the spool. Then grip the bump knob and pull straight out. It takes a good grip and some force, but it usually gives way.
How do the fuel lines in a weedeater trimmer pe550 hook up inside the gas tank
I have an older model that has a weighted filter in the tank. The filter flops around and can ‘fall’ into the fuel no matter which way you tilt the trimmer/tank. You should have one in your tank. Feed in the new line and make the end come out the gas cap. Push the filter/weight into the end of the fuel line. Pull the extra fuel line out of the tank to match the original position. You should have cut the new line to approximately the proper or same length as the old fuel line with an angle cut so you could push it into the tank.
I have weedeater model XT 85 and the spring is broken on the auto line feed so line won’t feed on. do you know part No…I can’t find it…and where can I get a replacement ? Thanks, Ken UK

Need string for Homelite trimmer (Model UT20042)
Genarally the size of line for that size of line trimmer is 2.0mm
Homelite curved shaft timmer line problem
It sounds like its a bump feed which they usually are, try turning on the machine and bump the head off the ground. If this fails to work try rewinding the line on tightly and neatly with no parts of the line crossing over as this could knot it. Quick tip most heads have a arrow pointing the direction to wind the line.
Let me know if that works.
Need to replace fuel lines on my Troy Bilt gas hedge trimmer. Where can I get replacement fuel lines… or better yet… what size are the lines and where can I buy a few feet of the lines. Note: I have reviewed the parts assembly and it would seem to indicate I have to replace the entire handle assembly (Part #1) instead of just buying replacement hose(s). Any help to resolve my issue would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance
Replacement fuel lines should be readily available at your local lawnmower repair shop. Your TroyBilt hedger uses fuel line that is 3/32″ (2.4mm) interior dimension, 3/16″ (4.8mm) outside dimension, with a 3/64″ (1.2mm) wall dimension.
Most manufacturers don’t offer replacement line, only fuel tank assemblies. Find your local shop, and try to get the TYGON brand…it is yellow. Tygon lasts the longest. You should be able to buy it by the foot for less than $2 per foot. You will need 2 feet of hose to replace both lines.
Make sure to clean the in-tank filter when replacing hoses.
Weedeater starts fine but the string head will not spin. I removed the string head, and the shaft it connects to is not spinning either.
The shaft cable has either come loose at the head, or is broken at the engine most likely. Is this a 2 piece unit? If so, see if the cable turns with the grass trimmer section removed. If so, it is usually easiest to just replace the trimmer shaft section. One piece units require disassembly at the engine, and if you are not mechanically inclined, that can be a pain.
Gas does not seem to be getting to the carburetor
Check the fuel lines going to the carburetor from the tank to make sure none of lines have decomposed or gotten soft also check the fuel filter inside the tank to make sure gas can get through…if the lines or filter are bad… replace them…bulk fuel line and filters available at any mower shop or mower parts house….a fairly easy job !!! hope this helps… ;-D
