How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

Sounds like something was blocking air from entering the vacuum that`s created. Maybe the rough waves got water and debris into your fuel tank vent and the vacuum sucked all of the air out collapsing the bulb.
Primer bulbs do not work well if there is lots of air and no fuel. I spent over one hour getting my new boat primed. You might try running the hose and bulb to a can of gas (lots of things can go bad with can of gas, be careful) and see if the motor will fill and firm up the bulb.
The operation of the primer bulb is quite simple. When the filled bulb is squeezed, the pressure closes the inlet valve and opens the outlet valve which then sends the fuel supply to the engine.
There are different types of gasoline primer bulbs, all of which contain various types of valves inside. Sometimes these bulbs become so hard it`s difficult to squeeze them; sometimes even though you can squeeze them, they pump poorly, if at all.
Since the primer bulb is now not pressurized, if you pumped it, you would be able to do that. It would get firm for a short period and then loose pressure and return to a vacuum state. This is perfectly normal. What is not normal is for the primer bulb to collapse either with the engine running, or not running.
Marine fuel primer bulbs are available in three sizes for 1/4″, 5/16″ and 3/8″ inch fuel hoses.
What is the purpose of the purge bulb? The purge bulb, used on many of today`s two stroke outdoor power equipment engines, is designed to circulate fuel through the carburetor, removing air and allowing the carburetor to have a fresh fuel charge before attempting to start the equipment thereby aiding startup.
Placement should be considered first. The filter should be installed in the outlet line that delivers fuel to the engine, after the tank outlet fitting but before any fuel pumps, regulators, primers or primer bulbs, or other filters.
Sanding is the primer`s partner.

Whenever you plan to prime a surface, you should also plan to sand the beginning surface and also between coats. It helps the primer and subsequential coats of paint stick all the better.

The answer to this question may seem obvious, but it`s essential to understand why primer needs time to cure before painting. A primer protects the surface from stains, dirt, and other contaminants while allowing the paint to adhere to it. If the wall is still wet from the primer, the coat of paint won`t stick to it.
Since primer`s function is mainly to bond and cover porous surfaces, it is not made to withstand elements like paint. Because of this, if you leave primer without a top coat (or paint) it will deteriorate and break down, probably in a chalk like form.
If the wall surface is smooth, you can skip the primer step. However, if there are textured areas or wrinkles on the wall, you`ll need to prime it first. If your wall has been previously covered in wallpaper, you should definitely plan on using a primer before painting.
If the primer is peeling, leaving bare drywall, then it`s most likely that you`ve laid it on too thick and it`s not cured. If you double coated without letting it cure off first, that could also be part of the problem.
Since the primer bulb is now not pressurized, if you pumped it, you would be able to do that. It would get firm for a short period and then loose pressure and return to a vacuum state. This is perfectly normal. What is not normal is for the primer bulb to collapse either with the engine running, or not running.
Using too much primer may make your skin feel clogged and coated. One of the main benefits of primer is a smooth skin surface for even makeup application. If you`ve applied too much, you may notice that your foundation grabs or clumps in certain areas.

Need to replace fuel lines….does the prime bulb connected to return fuel line or the supply fuel line
ANSWER : Hi stglass900…

Normally the big line will be the line the fuel filter is connected to inside of the tank, and is connected to the primer bulb.
The smaller of the two lines is the return line to the fuel tank from the carburetor after it is pumped thru the carburetor by the primer bulb.

Which fuel line “port/inlet” on the Walbro wt-380 goes to the fuel tank? It’s on a Craftsman 25cc Gas “Weed Wacker” Line Trimmer purchased in 2002. It has Walbro WT-380 carburetor with external primer bulb. The carb has two inlets for attaching fuel lines – one to gas tank, one to primer bulb. One inlet is on diaphragm side of carb (side with the two Low/High speed adjustment screws). Other inlet is on “reservoir?” side (side with air/fuel mixture screw). Which inlet gets the “fuel tank line”? (Other will obviously go to primer bulb. I found all kinds of diagrams on web but none that showed this. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. (Problem occurs when replacing gas lines and forget which line goes where:)
ANSWER : Usually the line with the filter on it that comes from the tank goes to carb. inlet first which is most likely close to the bottom side of the carb.nearest to the engine, then the outlet or return line on the carb.goes to the inlet side of the primer and the outlet side of the primer goes back to the tank. The primer draws fuel through the carb to the primer to the tank if its not? then correct the line connections until it does

809117565 bulb primer not priming
ANSWER : Probably needs new fuel lines to/from and in the tank. Have you been using ethanol gas? It eats up the fuel lines on 2 cycle motors. After you get it fixed, use only pure gasoline. I’ve had to rebuild two of mine so far!

Is there a secret to replacing gas lines on a trimmer? my new lines seem too big and don’t want to fit into the hole
ANSWER : Yes, the lines should be larger than the hole or they will leak. The last thing you should do is drill the hole bigger!
First cut the end of the new line on an angle and push it throught he hole as far as you can. Then with a long set of hemostats reach in through the fill hole and grab the line and pull it up through the fill hole. Cut the line straight then and attatch the fuel filter and push it back into the tank. Next, pull the excess line back out of the tank until the filter lays nice and flat on the bottom of the tank and you are ready to cut your new line to length and attatch to the carb or primer bulb.
Hint: always purchase more fuel line than you think you will need. That will give you excess to play with when cutting your angles and pulling it up through the fill hole.

My Ryobi start great but when I change it from start to run stays few seconds and died
ANSWER : Alow the engine to run for longer on the start setting before you switch to run

Ensure air filter is clean. Foam elements can be washed
with hot water and detergent. Paper elements can be cleaned with
compressed air blown from the inside of the filter but ideally should be
replaced.

Check fuel lines aren’t kinked or blocked restricting fuel flow.

Ensure fuel filter isn’t dirty. This is probably located at the end of the fuel line in the tank.

The fuel lines may have become airlocked. This can
happen if the tank is run dry. If the trimmer has a primer bulb,
alternatively press it several times and then try to pull start the
engine with choke on. Repeat this several times. The primer bulb should
feel spongy and fill with fuel.Once the engine kicks, switch to run.
