How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

Grinding gears, starting and stopping during operation, and the wheels not rotating with the pulley are common signs that your mower`s transmission is breaking down.
A clogged carburetor is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in the lawn mower for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the engine to stall.
Failure of any mechanical component, a broken hose, or clogged filter will cause tractor hydrostatic transmission problems. But the most common issue will be the oil itself. In the transmission section of your operator`s manual, you`ll find a section that covers oil viscosity.
One of the disadvantages of hydrostatic drives is that the majority of the oil stays in the loop and doesn`t return to the reservoir for cooling. One way to return some of the oil back to the tank is by using a hot oil shuttle valve.
Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten. Dirty Air Filter: Clean or replace. Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas. If this doesn`t work, you might need a new fuel filter.
As the fuel level drops, a vacuum begins to form in the fuel tank because air can get in to fill the space the consumed fuel occupied. After about 10 or 15 minutes, the vacuum will become strong enough that fuel will stop flowing to the carburetor and the lawnmower will die.
They are filled with the specified pump fluid to match each pump design and then sealed by each manufacturer at their factories. Replacing hydrostatic fluid is normally not necessary, unless the drive system is in need of some other internal service or repair.
Although cavitation is much more common with hydraulic systems, it can also seriously damage hydrostatic transmissions. Caused when gases in the fluid vaporize, it`s characterized by noisy, erratic transmission operation.
Over time, dirt, debris and other tiny particles can accumulate in the transmission fluid, affecting its fluid properties. This can cause the vehicle to die when you shift into drive or reverse, allow a loss of power, transmission slip, rough shifts or even prevent the vehicle from shifting into gear at all.
Clunking, humming or whining sounds are signs of automatic transmission problems. Faulty manual transmissions will also give off loud machinelike sounds that seem to come out of nowhere. A clunking noise when you shift gears is a telltale transmission situation. Have a mechanic look it over.

This common symptom of a failing transmission is easily noticed. If your transmission is having a tough time shifting into other gears, or refusing to do so completely, you`ve got a bad transmission and it`s time to schedule an appointment at your local dealership.

The symptoms that indicate a bad solenoid on a riding mower are difficulty starting the engine, engine stalls or shuts off suddenly, reduced engine power and performance. Moreover, it would also go through a decrease in fuel efficiency, and an unsteadiness in idling, lastly, the engine cranks but doesn`t start.

What should gap be between ignition module and flywheel magnets on troybilt 575ss 4 cycle weed trimmer? It is a year 2006 model.
ANSWER : Pull the module back, tighten it up and align magnets on flywheel with module. Put a business car between them and loosen the module. It will move against card. Tighten the screws there. It’s set.

What type of oil does it use? – Troy-Bilt 4-Cycle Curve Shaft Gas String Trimmer #41ADT41C966
ANSWER : I think all of these 4-stroke trimmers use SAE 30HD oil. I recommend synthetic. If you use synthetic, you can get away with using a multi-viscosity like 10W-30 if you can’t find straight SAE30 synthetic, but don’t use muti-viscosity conventional oil in these machines.

Is the rubber on the drive wheel on the snapper mower fixed to the metal hub? The rubber wheel part of the drive is not securely attached to the metal frame and slips when the mower goes up hill. Should I replace the drive wheel?
ANSWER : Yes, it may have gotten excessive oil on it and swelled the rubber. Replace the drive wheel.

ANSWER : You don’t mix oil and gas for a 4 cycle engine. Please do not add oil to the gas. The oil has it’s own tank for lubricating the engine. Use regular unlead gas in the fuel tank. Use 10w30 oil in the oil tank

ANSWER : You may have too much oil in the crankcase. You also may have broken piston rings. I would check the oil first. It could also be a carb problem. You just have to look at each possibility and eliminate them. ..Lee
