Even a brand new clutch can be slipping for a variety of reasons. Besides the clutch pressure plate and the clutch disk, clutch slipping causes can often be found in the release system. Additional causes include an incorrectly reworked flywheel or installation of the wrong clutch.
The most common cause of clutch slipping is wear and tear on the clutch plate. Over time, the clutch plate begins to slip, resulting in a loss of power. This can be caused by a number of factors, such as driving in stop-and-go traffic, or driving with a heavy foot.
Can a slipping clutch be adjusted? Sometimes. If it`s a mechanical clutch there might be an adjustment possible. It may or may not help depending on the condition of the friction disk, flywheel, springs and throw out bearing.
Excessive engine revolutions

Excessively revving the engine while using clutch control, or keeping the clutch partially engaged while accelerating with the gas pedal, can cause unnecessary damage to the clutch.

If the issue is left uncorrected, it will ultimately lead to complete loss of drive with the vehicle and may also damage the flywheel due to the excessive heat created from the slipping on the surfaces.
SLIPPING CLUTCH

That`s when the clutch disc can`t sustain the engine torque in low gear, but in high gear or on light acceleration, it`s fine. You can make it hours, days, or even weeks sometimes when your clutch just starts slipping.

“Riding” the clutch is the most common reason for premature clutch failure. Even the slightest pressure on the pedal will partially disengage the clutch, causing the release bearing, pressure plate and flywheel to overheat.
Unfortunately, while you might be tempted to continue to drive when noticing your clutch slipping, it is not advisable, as it could completely fail at any point, leaving you stranded out on the road. To prevent this in the first place, it`s advised that you drive sensibly and have you clutch checked every 60,000 miles.
Clutch Pedal Remains Stuck to the Floor. Clutch Pedal Feels Loose or Spongey. Clutch Pedal is Hard to Engage. Transmission Makes A Grinding, Whirling or Chirping Noise in Neutral.

HAVE A JOHN DEERE 318 LAWN TRACTOR, CHANGED POINTS AND CONDENSER, WON’T TURN OVER, TRIED STARTING FLUID IN CARB AND NOTHING. CAN IT BE THE COIL AND HOW DO I CHECK? THANKS
ANSWER : Check the coil impedance on the primary and secondary side. You’ll have to disconnect the battery negative cable so you don’t short something out. Unplug the spark plug wires and the two sets of smaller wires connected to the primary side of the coil. The primary coil reading should be between 3.7 ohms and 4.6 ohms while the secondary (spark plug side) should be between 34.2 k-ohms and 41.6 k-ohms. If the resistance values you measure are outside of these ranges, you need to replace the coil.
