The simple answer can be boiled down to safety and budget. Track-drive snowblowers handle every winter environment better than wheeled throwers. Generally, track drive models are more expensive, but you`re paying for superior traction-control and safe operation on hilly terrain that wheeled models can`t handle.
Tires provide a smoother ride on hard surfaces or roads thanks to the cushioning the air inside the tires provides. On the other hand, tracks can provide a smoother ride on rough fields (especially when traveling across the rows). The tracks — due to their longer contact area — can bridge over ruts.
To prevent gum deposits and rust from forming inside the hose, filter, gas tank, and carburetor during storage, your snowblower needs to be emptied of its fuel. Leaving fuel in the gas tank can damage a snowblower. It`s better to drain the tank completely and treat it to prevent moisture buildup.
If there`s a difference in track tension between the left and right snow blower tracks, your unit could pull to one side when driving.
Typically, a track drive snow blower moves more slowly. Snow blowers with wheels are both faster and easier to move around. Track drive systems are more stable on uneven ground or slippery slopes. Tracks provide better traction for steep inclines.

Snow thrower backfires and stalls
Back-firing & stalling is usually indicative of a timing problem. In small engines this can occur if the flywheel shear pin has sheared and allows the flywheel to change timing. Fix is to full the flywheel with a puller and replace the shear pin.
