How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

Gunk Buildup

Gunk buildup is one of the primary causes of the engine oil fill caps not coming off. This can be caused by several things, including dirt and debris getting into the oil or using thick oil that drains slowly.

With time, metal-winged gas caps develop rust. This rust can cause the cap to become stuck on your lawn mower. So, spraying it with WD-40 should help get the cap on and off smoothly.
Missing oil caps can cause your PCV system to pull in air from the breather cap and into your engine`s intake system, ultimately resulting in a vacuum leak. These leaks can be engine killers, as they increase engine temperatures dramatically.
Pressure inside the engine is quite normal due to it being a fully enclosed system. The usual way this disposed of is via a breather pipe usually from the crankcase or from the rocker cover area depending on the design of the engine.
Overfilling a lawn mower oil tank will negatively affect engine performance and possibly prevent the mower from starting. Too much oil in a lawn mower can easily clog the air filter, foul spark plugs, and potentially cause a hydro-lock, which could bend the connection rods in a multi-cylinder mower.
If you have a regular car with the oil cap on top of the valve cover, and you open it at idle, all that happens is you get to watch the cam or rockers activate the valves. If you leave it off and go for a drive, some cars will throw LOTS of oil, and some won`t.
Causes of a jammed/stuck fuel door:

Damaged release cable – In most vehicles, a cable runs from your fuel door lever to the fuel cap door. If this cable snaps or becomes loose, there will be no connection and the fuel door will not open. It will need to be replaced in order to open your fuel door.

Can I Use Motor Oil in My Lawn Mower? If the engine manufacturer`s operator manual recommends 10W-30 or 10W-40, the same motor oil types used in vehicles, then these can also be used in your lawn mower.
That`s why Toro recommends changing the engine oil in your Zero Turn Mower after 100 hours of operation and after the first five hours for new mowers. The procedure varies from mower to mower so check your owner`s manual for all the details including important safety information.
Yes, you can, but it will be difficult to measure the oil sump level when it`s running because some oil will be circulating and the sump will be stirred up. You should always measure oil level with the car parked on a level surface and engine off for about 5 minutes to allow the oil to drain back to the sump.
To drain your vehicle`s oil, place the drain pan under the drain plug — but not directly under it. The angle of the drain plug will cause the oil to stream out at an angle, so offset the pan to that side by several inches. Once oil has drained, remove the oil filler cap.

Dont know what type of oil to use – Toro Power Lawn Mower
ANSWER : Put straight 30 weight motor oil in it. Not 10W30 or any multi-viscosity oil. Straight 30 weight motor oil. If you’re doing a complete oil change, then you may want to use Synthetic 30 weight, which will last longer between oil changes and also make your engine last longer (but it costs more too). Best of luck to you.James
