Start fine but will not throttle up

Hi tom97420Sounds like you have dirt/debris in your caburetor jets,fuel passages or a diaphgram that is becoming non-flexible. Check/Clean/Replace your Air Filter, a dirty air filter can make your engine run to rich with fuel.Also be sure to check and clean your spark arrestor in the exaust,if you have one installed on your engine.
Note: ALWAYS USE COMPRESSED AIR TO CLEAN YOUR JETS AND PASSAGES, VERY IMPORTANT.
Note:Before you disassemble the carburetor:Write down on a piece of paper or take a picture of how the linkage attaches to your carburetor for later reference when you go to reinstall your carburetor.Mark each piece with a awl, or some kind of instrument that will make an alignment scratch before you disassemble the carburetor into separate pieces.That way you will know which way it goes back together when you reassemble it.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor or by using a very small shot of starting fluid and letting it run a few times like that, and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.Be sure to check your fuel tank for water and dirt/debris, if there is water/debris then you need to clean your tank.Check you fuel line condition after a while they will degrade and need replacment.
Check/Clean/Replace your fuel filter if you have one, normally they are located in the fuel tank of chainsaws and weedeaters.When you remove your fuel lines from the carburetor be sure to make a drawing to how the lines are connected to the carburetor or take a pictue for later reference.Normally the big line will be the line the fuel filter is connected to inside of the tank.The smaller of the two lines is the return to the fuel tank from the carburetor after it is pumped thru the carburetor by the primer bulb.Make sure you are using fresh fuel…and oil if your using a two cycle chainsaw or weedeater with the oil to the right mixture…too much oil as it can cause hard starting and excessive smoking.If the chainsaw/trimmer is over a couple of years old, then I recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit,because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.The diaphgram may look good and flexible, but it can be deceiving and not act as a fuel pump as it should because it has become too hard and will cause hard starting,start and run and shut off, etc.
When you clean your carburetor, I recommend that you use a laquer thinner type cleaner to clean and dissolve the laquer build-up in the float and needle jet passages.Be sure to remove all plastic and rubber parts before using the laquer thinner because it can dissolve the plastic parts and render them unuseable.Be sure to use COMPRESSED AIR to blow out all the fuel and air passages.The higher air pressure is needed to blow some of the trash/debris from the fuel or air passages.Be careful when blowing out the passages, because there are sometimes small rubber type seats in the bottom of some of the passages.Keep in mind that the float (if you have one) for the carburetor must be level when you go to reassemble the carburetor or follow the instructions you get with the carburetor kit, or you could also ask the parts man that you get your kit from.When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, you will first need to lightly seat the jet screws.But before you lightly seat the jet screws count the number of turns it takes to seat the jet screws from their original position.Be sure to mark the turns down on a piece of paper.That way when you put the jets back in, you know to lightly seat them first and then turn them back out to their original position before you started.Note:The little spring inside of the carburetor goes under the float arm.That is where your fuel inlet needle/float valve is located…on the arm at the end.Normally there is a small indention in the carburetor base and a small protrusion on the underneath of the float arm where the spring will be in the right postion for installation.The spring will set in the indention and you will install the float arm with the needle/float valve and float rod into position over top of the spring,you will push down until it is in position and then you can tighten the screw that holds the float arm assembly in position.Once you have your carburetor cleaned/rebuilt that should solve your problem.Please take time to rate me Bud

The correct fuel mixture ratio is 32:1. Note: Gasoline and oil must be premixed in a clean gasoline container.
What Is the Ratio? The correct fuel and oil mixing ratio for a Toro TC3000 trimmer is 50:1. It is 50 parts gasoline to 1 part two-cycle oil. Mix 1 gallon of fuel with 2.6 ounces of oil to operate the trimmer`s engine at the optimum lubrication in the fuel system.
The most likely culprit is a dirty or clogged air filter. Issues with your fuel pump or fuel filter can also cause your engine to idle then die with any throttle. If you have an older car, it could also be a bad carburetor.
For a 50:1 ratio of gas to oil, use 2.6 fluid ounces of oil per gallon of gas. For a 40:1 mixture, use 3.2 fluid ounces of oil per gallon of gas.
Oil mix ratios explained
If your manufacturer recommends a 50:1 fuel/oil mix, it means you need 50 parts of gas to one part two-stroke oil. To mix one gallon of fuel at 50:1, add 2.6 ounces of two-stroke oil to one gallon of gas, as shown in the chart below.
Use a 40:1 two-cycle oil mix ratio. One gallon of gasoline combined with 3.2 oz of two-cycle engine oil. Unsure of the age of your equipment? Use the 40:1 mixture.
If the engine is not revving up and cuts out before you reach higher revs then you need to do the following checks: Fuel: Make sure it is fresh and correctly mixed (see `Starting Issues`). Air filter: Make sure it is clean and unclogged. Fuel cap: Make sure it`s hand-tight.
The carburetor might be clogged. A clogged carburetor is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in the string trimmer for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance.
Turn on the ignition switch and pull the starting cord quickly. You should see a spark in the plug gap. Since the spark may be faint, it may help to do the test in a dark area. If there is no spark, check for a broken or shorted (bare) lead wire or bad switch.

I have a toro time cutter that i need to get to the shop, the problem is i need it to go in to neural.
Under the seat towards the rear are two levers with finger loops. move them both to the neutral position shown in diagram provided on mower. This will release the wheels .
Toro recycler will start until primed gas is consumed.
I had similar problem and cleaned the spark plug and that seemed to have worked, but I think that may be a temporary fix because the engine still seems to be running unevenly. I feel that it must be a larger problem with the carb. If anyone can help this novice to adjust the carb or clean both carb and filter, or offer other solutions I would appreciate your assistance.
My toro self propelled only runs for a few minutes. I replaced air filter and spark plug, and cleaned out carb. Any ideas?
Have you tried replacing the gas cap? I had the same problem with my mower and did everything you have done, changed gas cap no problem since

Your self-propel is probably belt driven. Belts can make an awfully lot of noise when unhappy. Possible it has rolled over and is running on the wrong side of the belt or is worn and just needs replaced. Hope this helps.,
Toro mower model 20017, self propelled will not work and wheels will not roll backward. What is the problem?
Either a gear wheel has busted inside the plastic wheel hub. Or the drive belt is off it’s track and wedged between the disc wheel and the frame. easy to pry off.
I have a toro gts 6.5hp model 20017. The enginer is overreving a lot. I had changed the carburetor and believe i put the linkages correctly, however i noticed the governor arm is rotated slightly right because the governor link appears to be too long for the arm to be vertical. Is this the source of the problem or is it something else?
The way i set the govenor is, slacken the screw on the engine govenor arm, push the arm fully over to open the throttle wide open, now turn the actual govenor shaft within the arm in the same direction, fully retighten the govenor arm screw,

The torque on my self propelled Toro Mower seems to not be self driving like it used to. It also is making a weird sound.
I agree with the previous answer. Likely the belt is off. Easy to fix and it happens pretty easy especially if you hit sticks or a branch and something (even a tiny stick or twig) finds its way under the plastic cover and gets into the belt area. Grab a pair of pliars, take off the bolt holding the plastic part down on the front and check the belt. If it is off or not alligned right, slip back on check debris. If problem is still there you may be looking at the actual drive shaft itself and that can be a real problem….the kind you may want to take to the local hardware store.
