Sounds like you have a clutch rod touching something under the cutter body. Touching the pedal and the noise stops tells me that you have put tension on the connecting rods and have removed it from touching whatever it is touching.
How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
Check the clutch release bearings.
If you notice chirping noises, push the pedal in with the vehicle still in neutral. If the noises go away when you load the pedal, the problem is with the clutch fork and pivot stud. Check for worn components and replace.
It`s likely to be the clutch pin making this clicking sound. It wears over time creating a grove that will eventually catch the clutch pedal and hold it down to the floor. There have been a few threads on this in the past.
Transmission Noisy in Neutral
These noises from your transmission, while it`s in neutral, could mean mechanical wear from some of the internal transmission parts. Reverse idler gears, worn bearings, worn gear teeth are some of the probable causes.
If you hear a high-pitched squeaking as you press the pedal then you know that you have a problem with your clutch. This sort of noise is usually associated with problems with the clutch release or throw-out bearings.
A clicking that goes away when you step on the pedal probably means something has gotten loose in the pressure plate and when you step on the pedal it puts the mechanism under pressure and quiets things down.
Low or Dirty Engine Oil If your car is making clicking sounds when driving, a likely culprit is low or dirty engine oil. Motor oil lubricates all of the components so that you can drive with ease. If you are running low on engine oil, the metal parts may start to tap and grind over time.
Automatic vehicles that are on neutral while on neutral doesn`t save on fuel, use hand break instead so that you don`t wear out your transmission. Damage happens when if the gear is in N when the light turns green. As a result, you`ll end up revving the engine to no avail, costing you more fuel.
Rumbling and growling The growling of a bad transmission bearing, like the whine of a bad gear, will become increasingly more noisy while it wears, until the bearing seizes or falls apart, with catastrophic results.
As well as wearing out your leg muscles, you`re also putting needless strain on the clutch. It`s much better to put your car in neutral and apply the handbrake to keep it stationary. When you put your car in neutral, the clutch is spared unnecessary wear and tear.
Once you`re in neutral, you can let out the clutch completely without the engine idle changing. As long as you`re not moving, leaving the car in neutral or pressing the clutch will keep the vehicle running.

I have a Husqvarna YTH 2242 TDF Ride-on-mower/Yard Tractor.Have you ever come across a problem with driving after re-engaging the transmission?
I disengaged the transmission to push the tractor in my garage a few days ago.
Today I re-engaged the transmission. At first it wouldn’t reverse, then I repeated the operation and all was well…I thought.
I set off towards my lawn…up a small slope, and towards the top of the slope eased off on the forward drive pedal, while deciding which way to go, and the tractor slowed, and stopped. Then, to start moving forward again I pressed the forward drive pedal. But, the tractor had no forward drive…nor did it have any Brake pedal. There was just nothing ……and the tractor rolled back down the slope, quite quickly, gathering speed, backwards. Luckily it is not much of a slope and it came to rest on the flat again. When I tried the Forward drive to set off again, it worked…and the brake worked too. I thought I must simply have panicked somehow. So I set off again…and at the top of the slope, again paused…eased off on the forward drive……..and again the same thing happened. No forward drive, no brakes!
Has anyone encountered this problem before?
and …does the brake pedal operate on the transmission somehow, rather than on the road wheels?
Many thanks
ANSWER : Hello! There are two known faults with the Husqvarna YTH…# 1 is the drive belt slipping…The belts have a manufacturing defect, in that they are out of specification in length…After some usage slipping occurs…#2 is a brake recall which is described below…It refers to the 19.5 HP 42″ cut but the 46″ cut utilizes the same braking mechanism…Guru…saailerBrake Recall.
