Black and Decker & Grass Hog Electric Trimmer
The string just shoots out and wraps around the mechanism…I think there is a little white gizmo in the head that keeps it from doing that, and it looks like a little piece of it broke off… is that white part what keeps it from continually letting string come out?? Can it be replaced?
I don’t have a manual and Lowes doesn’t know who would fix these things… its electric too..

Usually this is the result of the cutting head being taken too close to objects, e.g. garden stones, paving edges, walls etc. The cutting line must be allowed to rotate freely and the correct diameter and type of line should be used.
Another reason the feeding line may not be working is that the line or lever is old and worn. An old line is more likely to kink and get jammed in the trimmer. If this is the issue, replace the line, making sure to get the correct size, and wind it neatly in the direction indicated on the spool.
Here there can be two scenarios: The spool isn`t suitable for your trimmer. You`re not winding the line properly around the spool.
The Automatic Feed Spool (AFS™) is the technologically advanced line feed system found on Black & Decker string trimmer products such as the Grass Hog™, Trimmer/Edger, and the 12″ Cordless Trimmer/Edger.
The most common reason for the cord refusing to rewind is a broken or worn out recoil spring. This tiny spring hooks onto the pulley and is stretched out when you pull the cord; when you let go the spring is meant to snap back to its original position.

I am having a problem with a T430 field trimmer. The trimming string has broken off in the hole that the string is inserted I am unable to pull it out I’ve tried to grab it with needle nose pliers and am unable to pull it out. There are 4 philips head screws on the top of the plate that the string goes into when I remove those screws the assembly does not come apart I do not want to force it apart if it’s not suppose to come apart in that manner. Can you suggest how to remove the string stuck in the holes and put new string in?
