Why Is My Pool Pump Tripping The Breaker? If the windings inside the motor are shorting together due to heat or age, and your pump is drawing more current and heating up, you will likely notice it when you discover the pump has turned itself off.
Leaking. One common cause of a submersible pump tripping its breaker can be cracks or leaks in the housing. If your pump`s housing is cracked, water could be getting into the pump through these cracks and causing it to short circuit. The same can be happening if you have a leak in your pump which is letting water in.
Some of the most common reasons are that: You might have a bad capacitor. Debris might be blocking the impeller and consequently disabling the pool pump. There might be problems with the motor shaft.
If your pump doesn`t turn on and instead makes a humming sound, it could be a problem with your capacitor or a jammed motor. But if it makes a humming sound that continues until your circuit breaker trips, you can be fairly certain it`s a flawed capacitor.
To fully reset the breaker, you will need to turn the breaker all the way off and then back on before it will hold. If the breaker trips again you may have a short circuit or overloaded circuit, which will need to be checked out by a local licensed residential electrician.
If you find yourself experiencing this issue, it`s likely that your water heater`s heating element has burnt out, you`ve got an issue related to your thermostat, or there`s a wiring problem somewhere in your system.
If the water supply pipes become clogged, the pump will short cycle. A clog in the water supply creates high water pressure very quickly. The best way to check for this is to check the water filter. If it`s dirty or blocked, replace it, and you may restore function.
Pumps may encounter several situations where the motor or driver will be turned off purposely (pump shutdown) or unplanned (loss of power). This is known as a pump trip and is important to understand how this will impact hydraulic systems because it can lead to waterhammer.

Breaker trips when pump is turned on
Make sure the amperage on the motor doesn’t need more than the breaker you have. it should tell you on the name palte or the manual how many amps it uses under a workload. if it’s worked before this, then maybe the motor is seizing or has a short.
Sump pump hums and then kicks breaker. Will not pump. I cleaned everything, still have problem
Pump motor is jammed causing overload and resulting breaker trip. Try to turn the pump shaft by hand, it should be very easy to turn. If there’s any resistance check for blockage.
I have a pressure booster pump installed which turns on automatically when we open the tap and turns off by itself when we close the tap, but when power goes and comes back(common in india), the pump will turn on even with no tap opened and does not turn off automatically and goes on running, some kind of airlock problem I think, when we just shut off and on water input several times, it again starts working well
Check to see if the output pipe has water in it when the pump swutches off the pump needs to be primed at all time what we normally find cases like this is the pump is higher than the supply or there is an air pocket on the output where the pressure sensor is
Trouble shooting shurflo water pump problem
Try bleeding all the air out of the system or the new pump might be faulty.
I have a 1/2 horse wayne shallow well pump. At times the water in the house slows to a trickel. This will happen for about 40-120 seconds then the pump seems to kick on and the pressure is restored. I have replaced the high low switch and the problem persists. Please let me know any thoughts on the problem. Thank You
Check air in your water tank should be less than you’re cut in pressure..
I own a smhp45 onga pump. It works but I need to manually turn the propeller to work. Why is this happening?
The motor start capacitor has failed. This is replaceable.
My pool pump makes a buzzing noise but there is no water circulating into the pool and no suction what-soever. What could be the problem?
First, Check your voltage at the terminal with a voltmeter. If it is within 10% of what is stated on the name plate, try the following suggestions. If is is more than 10% off, call an electrician. Common problems that cause this humming with no suction in these pool pumps are:-Take the pump apart and look for rubbing that could be causing your pump to tighten up. -Check for a seized motor. If the motor has seized up, you will have to have it repaired or replaced.-It could be a winding switch or capacitor problem. Again, a pro will have to service it.
Pump leaks from the bottom after running, is this normal?
No . the problem is that the ceramic seal that seals between the fluid and the motor and bearings is leaking ( probably from running dry) or the rubber that holds the carbon seal insert has a crack. Suggest you pull the pump down to fix it otherwise the water/ fluid will get into the bearing of the motor and will cause a major failure
