TYPES OF PARKING BRAKES
Press down on the pedal until you hear it click to engage it. Pull the lever above the foot pedal to release the brake.
One of the most common causes of a jammed parking brake is that of rust or corrosion. Water and dirt cause cables to erode which then can cause either your brakes to fail, your brake pads to stick to your wheels, or your cables to snap.
The most common causes of your brakes not releasing is a seized caliper or brake pad. This typically occurs due to rusting or ageing. Typically, you will notice your vehicle pulling to one side when you press down on your brakes.
To do this safely, turn on your vehicle and drive forward and reverse in succession. You may find that your vehicle feels like the brakes are on and will not budge in either direction but persist with the motion and this should release the brakes.
If your handbrake feels tighter than usual it could be a sign of a wiring problem. A tight handbrake is more difficult to use in an emergency situation. Apart from that, a tight handbrake cable may not allow your car clearance if it hits a bump when braking. This could cause your tires to wear out faster than expected.

Remove it from the machine and secure it in a vice. Attempt to activate/ deactivate it and look to see what is causing it not to release. a bit difficult to advise without being able to see what’s been done.

Husky 435 chain brake is stuck in “locked” position with clutch cover off. How do I release the brake, so the cover will fit over the flywheel?
Hi, grab the cover in a vise in the same place the bar nuts tighten up to. Then pull the chainbrake lever back towards where the handle bar would normally be until it clicks and locks back. This will require a bit of force. Then refit the cover as normal. Hope this helps, regards Phil.
