After about ten minustes of use the engine begins to choke out. I have to throttle up and down to keep it running. I can never use full throttle after that because the engine cuts off.
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
This seems to be a common issue as of late, i’d tighten up your idle adjustment so you can run at full throttle with no issue. The tiller’s oil should be at the lower lip of the dip stick’s access threading while the unit is laying face down (gas tank down). Clean up your carb as well and change your plug/filter, if this doesn’t work than you’re probably looking at some simple carb adjustments, but the fact it dies after 10 minutes of use makes me think it’s running either dirty or too rich.

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

One of the most common problems, especially because rototillers often sit unused for months, is stale fuel or a clogged carburetor. If you know you have fresh fuel, you can check for carburetor blockage by spraying a small amount of carb cleaner into the intake and attempting to start the engine.
Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the engine to stall. If the carburetor is clogged, try cleaning it with carburetor cleaner.
Why would the engine only run while the choke is on or with repeated manual priming? An engine that requires the choking ( partial or full ) after initial engine warm up is an indication that the engine fuel air mixture system is out of adjustment.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Using an undersized cord, a larger number cord gauge (AWG) than recommended in the chart, will cause a loss in power and overheating of the tiller.
The carburetor might be clogged. A clogged carburetor is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in the engine for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the engine to stall.
A full gas tank and oil reservoir are the essential first steps when checking why the lawn mower won`t stay running, but the problem could also be a dirty filter, clogged carburetor, improper fuel mixture, or a dirty spark plug.
Engines usually stop suddenly only if they suffer from a lack of fuel or sparks . An engine that stops dead without prior warning has probably had a sudden ignition failure – although if it locks solid it`s more likely to have seized.
How Do I Know If My Praying Mantis Is Hungry? A praying mantis will usually let you know when it is hungry by becoming more active and trying to climb higher up on its cage. You may also see it extend its abdomen and mouthparts as if it is trying to reach for food.
Reliable easy-starting and powerful Honda® four-cycle engine. Requires no mixing of oil and gas and runs quieter.
When an engine starts, it needs a rich fuel-to-air mixture. Chokes are designed to close off or “choke” the air supply in order to provide the proper ratio of fuel to air. An engine needs more air as it warms up, so the choke needs to open to allow more air.
Its common for small engines to need carburetor adjustments over time. Your engine is running lean and putting the choke on partially is helping it draw more fuel to run good. Adjust the carb if its adjustable or buy a new carb. You can find info on carb tuning in small engine service books.
You should change your tiller oil at least every spring, but ideally after every 50 hours of operation. Between oil changes, check your oil level before each use to ensure there`s enough oil present. Small amounts of oil may burn off during use, so you may need to occasionally top it off.
The primary cause behind engine overheating is a dirty engine. Dirt and debris can get into the vents and block the air intake, meaning that cool air cannot flow over the engine and cool it.

If the rotary tiller still doesn`t start:

Check that the fuel tank isn`t empty: if necessary, add fuel. The fuel must be fresh, of good quality and clean: make sure that no dirt, water or incompatible fuel (such as petrol-oil mixture, if the engine is a 4-stroke) gets into the tank.

Avoid tilling in wet soil as soil compaction can occur and lead to poor root penetration in the growing season. If it rains, it`s best to wait a few days to allow soil to become semi-dry.
