I have 1996 john deere riding mower . it is liquid cooled . model LX 188
Trouble shooting the charging system. Pull the positive cable off the battery and mower quits, stick positive cable quickly back on and mower continues to run.

Battery?, wiring?? Had a recent problem with blades not engaging. I have had also had a slightly older issue of battery not holding charge so i have to boost or jump start mower. I went out and bought brand new battery and after one usage it would not hold charge and blades will still not engage. Would the issue related to the battery effect the engagement of the blades???
ANSWER : If your Alternator didn’t charging the battery, even though you brand new battery will not last. So there is two possible cause, 1) Your Alternator is not functioning. 2) there is a wiring problem that causing your battery to discharge easily, but you check it after you switch off the key remove the battery negative terminal then touch it back to batt term. and see if there is little blue spark, if does your wiring system got problem. If not, so your Alternator do not charge the battery.

Ryobi troubleshooting Recently bought the two set package of 18V lithium batteries however the tool will not work. It was working however it has stopped . Tried two different batterie , both fully charged ,with no results.
ANSWER : The motor may have overheated and burned open. Use a multimeter to check resistance across the battery contacts in the tool with the switch closed. If it reads open, the motor has failed.

My battery is only 1 year old, i cant get it to hold a charge
ANSWER : My battery had the same issue. I opened the WA3218 battery box and found one of the two 12V 10AH batteries had overheated due to an internal hot spot. You can either buy a new WA3218 battery from Sears for about $82 or if you are a handyman save a few bucks and change the two Model 6 DZM -10 batteries for new ones at about $25 each. Need to change both at the same time. The battery wires are soldered. Either cut them off and crimp on new HD yellow terminals or un-solder & re-solder them. I found a 12V 15AH replacement (50 % more capacity) model UBS12150 which will fit inside the battery box for about $37.50 ea. Peter

I have had a poulan pro 550 series push mower for almost 1 year at the end of the season last year the mower would start briefly and then stop. i have cleaned out the air filter and that did not help.the mower started, i made one revolution around the yard 3/4th of the way the mower quit. I then primed the mower it started then quit and now it will not start at all. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do. Thanks
ANSWER : There is a little spring that works the carburetor arm. If that popped off then the mower will not run.
