The chain came off while I was working. It is not broken. I opened the cover and put it back. but it is too loose. How do I tighten it. I have tried the screw on the side but it didn’t help
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
Should be a screw next to the bar. you can tighten it and it will tighten the chain. Keep in mind that the 2 bolts holding the bar and cover in place have to be loose to do this.

There are three main reasons for a chain to come off: Incorrect bar and/or chain for the saw; check to be sure that you are using the proper chain pitch, gauge and number of drive links to match the guide bar. Chain not properly tensioned; It is normal for a new chain to stretch and require frequent adjustment.
Saw chain that is too tight can prevent the chainsaw from turning the saw chain or cause the chainsaw to heat up. In addition to being a potential fire hazard, an overheated saw chain and guide bar can significantly reduce the useful life of these components.

2. I’d hold the tip of the bar 2-3″ above a stump or even a news paper, rev it up for a few seconds and look for a line of bar oil. If none is visible your bar oil reservoir is empty or saw isn’t oiling. If you added oil and it’s not oiling return it to where you purchased it.

** This proceedure must be used on ANY brand chain saw. Here is why. If the bar nose is not lifted upon adjustment, when cutting, the nose will move upward, the chain will have a ‘droop’ away from the bar and appear to have loosened while cutting. Any contact with a small branch will flip the chain off of the bar. If you re-adjust it improperly, the same senerio will occur the next cut.
