When releasing the break peddle it slams back and forth, I did not see any springs missing.
Experienced gardeners share their insights in answering this question :
There is a bad spot in the belt or a bad / loose pulley causing this. Its a simple procedure to remove the mower deck. Then you can lay under the tractor and have a good view of the drive components. Lock the brake to slacken the belt Then check all the pulleys. Make sure they turn freely, no excessive play and flat spots. Check the belt for a burn spot. Replace any damaged pulleys and the belt if it has a bad spot and that should solve your problem.

How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?

We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :

The left brake pedal stops the left rear wheel. And the right brake pedal does the same with the right side. This independent left and right wheel braking augments the steering of the tractor when only the two rear wheels are driven.
Independent brakes allow the driver to apply different amounts of braking to different wheels. Tractors usually have brakes only on their rear wheels, which are also the main driving wheels. As there is one brake on each wheel, there are two brakes, which is why tractors have two brake pedals.
Why is it important to push down on the brake pedal when starting the engine? Even if you drive a vehicle that doesn`t require you to depress the brake to start the engine, doing so is good practice. It provides an extra layer of certainty that the vehicle will be stationary as the engine starts.
Unlike the automatic brake system, the independent brake system is a direct air system. An independent brake valve controls a relay valve that will allow air from the main reservoir to flow into the brake cylinders on the locomotives only.
The independent brake is a “straight air” system that makes brake applications on the head-of-train locomotive consist independently of the automatic brake, providing for more nuanced train control. The two braking systems may interact differently as a matter of preference by the locomotive builder or the railroad.
Pressure Differential Switch

The valve/switch kicks in and blocks off pressure to that line, reserving pressure to either the front or rear brakes, allowing you to maintain one or the other so that you can safely come to a stop.

Definition & Description. A Brake Proportioning Valve is commonly found on vehicles with front disc and rear drum brakes. It is a safety valve that restricts flow to the rear brakes during a “panic stop.” This prevents the rear wheels from locking up before the front wheels.
It is called a brake booster. It uses vacuum from the engine to help you apply extra force to compress the brake fluid. Thus when you turn the engine off, you quickly run out of air and lose the assistance so the brake pedal is harder to press.
Many drivers put their cars in park before setting the emergency brake. That`s backwards. The correct way is to stop your car with your primary brakes, set the emergency brake and then place your car in park before turning off your engine.
At its most basic purpose, left-foot braking can be used to decrease the time spent moving the right foot between the brake and throttle pedals, and can also be used to control load transfer. It is most commonly used in auto racing (simultaneous gas and brake keeps turbo pressure and reduces turbo lag).
Answer: A parking brake, also called an emergency brake or e-brake, is a mechanical hand lever or foot-operated brake that is a backup braking system. It is located either between the front two seats or to the left of your gas and brake pedal.
Engine braking is basically the process of slowing the car down by releasing the accelerator and shifting down through gears, rather than using the footbrake. In technical terms, it`s using decelerative forces in the engine to slow the speed the wheels are turning at.

I am assembling the chain saw that I bought online. There was some difficulty in taking off the clutch cover. Before I did that, I had disengaged the chain brake. Now I find that I cannot put the cover back on because the chain brake seems to be activated, and the brake is too small to get it around the ring to remount the cover. I cannot move the brake one way or the other to activate the spring-loaded mechanism. Do you have a solution?
ANSWER : Try Look at eReplacementParts.com and the parts diagrams

How do I get the brake band ,located inside the chain cover, assembled back onto the chain saw. clutch assembly. The band brake diameter seems too small to fit around the clutch housing.
ANSWER : You need to load the brake, clamp it in a vice, be carefull not to damage the cover, if the hand gaurd is connected to the brake pull it fully back until the locks off, this may take a fair amount of force as it is compressing a large spring, if the hand guard is on the machine, remove it and use this as a tool to load the brake, the only other way is to remoce the clutch and sprocket, now refit the brake onto the saw, now pull the hand guard fully back to load the brake.

I have a Husqvarna YTH 2242 TDF Ride-on-mower/Yard Tractor.Have you ever come across a problem with driving after re-engaging the transmission?

I disengaged the transmission to push the tractor in my garage a few days ago.

Today I re-engaged the transmission. At first it wouldn’t reverse, then I repeated the operation and all was well…I thought.

I set off towards my lawn…up a small slope, and towards the top of the slope eased off on the forward drive pedal, while deciding which way to go, and the tractor slowed, and stopped. Then, to start moving forward again I pressed the forward drive pedal. But, the tractor had no forward drive…nor did it have any Brake pedal. There was just nothing ……and the tractor rolled back down the slope, quite quickly, gathering speed, backwards. Luckily it is not much of a slope and it came to rest on the flat again. When I tried the Forward drive to set off again, it worked…and the brake worked too. I thought I must simply have panicked somehow. So I set off again…and at the top of the slope, again paused…eased off on the forward drive……..and again the same thing happened. No forward drive, no brakes!
Has anyone encountered this problem before?
and …does the brake pedal operate on the transmission somehow, rather than on the road wheels?
Many thanks

ANSWER : Hello! There are two known faults with the Husqvarna YTH…# 1 is the drive belt slipping…The belts have a manufacturing defect, in that they are out of specification in length…After some usage slipping occurs…#2 is a brake recall which is described below…It refers to the 19.5 HP 42″ cut but the 46″ cut utilizes the same braking mechanism…Guru…saailerBrake Recall.
