How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
A clogged fuel filter is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in the string trimmer for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the fuel filter and prevent the engine from starting.
A spark arrestor is a mesh screen designed to prevent anything that expels flame or sparks (i.e., an internal combustion engine) from starting fires.
An almost totally blocked spark arrestor screen on a two-stroke, air-cooled engine can cause the engine to overheat. The result is that the piston expands into the exhaust port and the engine seizes. The piston scored because the engine was unable to dissipate heat fast enough.
What`s more, HD2 air filters can be easily cleaned and reused multiple times: just spray the removed filter with STIHL Varioclean, leave the detergent to take effect briefly, then rinse and dry the air filter before reinstalling it.
Checking the Fuel Mix
The most common problem with a strimmer not starting is that there`s a problem with the fuel mix. Double check that you`ve used 40 parts fresh unleaded petrol to 1 part 2-stroke oil (40:1). Check the petrol you`ve used isn`t stale.
If your STIHL chainsaw is going to have a problem, it`s likely to be with a worn carburetor, bad spark plugs, loose fuel hoses, or clogged fuel lines. You should also inspect the fuel intake system and ensure that there are no compression issues.
Carbon build up could be caused from several things. The spark arrestor screen can plug within only 4-6 tanks of fuel if: – Fuel that is more than 30 days old which may contain varnish. – Poor quality 2-stroke oil or oil that does not meet theISO-L-EGD and JASO M345 FC/FD standards was used.
A spark arrester is a mechanical device that traps or destroys hot exhaust particles expelled from an internal combustion engine.
The Chemical Safety Board (CSB) Recommends:
Flame arresters require regular inspection and maintenance (cleaning) to maintain functionality.
Over time, the spark arrestor can become clogged with soot. If the spark arrestor is clogged, the engine may stall. To unclog the spark arrestor, remove it and clean it with a wire brush. You may also replace the spark arrestor.
