How to Identify and Fix Common Gardening Problems ?
We provide a variety of viewpoints on how to identify and fix common gardening problems. Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced gardeners :
In 1965, production started on a STIHL Contra equipped with the new feature – now known as the anti-vibration (AV) system. The new feature was a great success and by 1967, the AV feature was also standard on the 041 chainsaw.
GUIDE BAR LENGTH 30.5 cm (12 in.) WEIGHT (with cutting attachment) 7.4 kg (16.3 lbs.)
All STIHL gasoline-powered equipment uses a 50:1 gas and oil mixture.
We`ll start with an easy one. Every STIHL chainsaw model name starts with MS, MSA, or MSE. The common part, MS, stands for Motorsäge which is German for chainsaw. MSA indicates that it`s a battery chainsaw and MSE tells us that it`s an electric model.
How to Measure Chainsaw Chain Yourself. To find a chain replacement, you`ll need to figure out two numbers: Pitch: the distance between the chain`s drive links. Gauge: the width of the groove where the chain fits into the bar.
Powered by STIHL`s revolutionary 4-MIX engine technology, the HT 101 can reach branches up to approx. 5m off the ground thanks to its extendable shaft. The length can range from 2.7m – 3.9m.
For a mixing ratio of 1 : 50 you need 5 litres of high-octane gas and 0.10 litres (100 ml) of STIHL two-stroke oil.
Different equipment manufacturers recommend different oil mix ratios, complicating matters. Most modern chainsaws, string trimmers, leaf blowers and other small-engine two-stroke equipment recommend a 50:1 oil mix ratio, but some recommend 40:1 and older two-stroke equipment might even call for 32:1.
1:25 = 1 part oil + 25 parts petrol, or 40 ml oil per litre of petrol when using other brands of oil. Any two-stroke engine oil you use in your petrol gardening tool must have the TC classification.
STIHL`s low-kickback chain features a green tie strap that identifies each loop as “low-kickback” chain that meets the ANSI standard. Recommended for both the experienced and inexperienced chainsaw user. Yellow (caution) marks products with increased risk of kickback injury.
The letters on the screws represent High (H), Low (L) and Idle (T). The H screw regulates the Air/Fuel mix during high RPMs, while the L Screw does the same during low RPMs. The T screw regulates how much fuel is sent to the carburettor while idling until the throttle is pressed.
If you are replacing a Stihl® chain, you can look at the numbers on the side of the chain to determine pitch, gauge, and other characteristics of the chain. Example: Your chain has the number 33RM2 stamped in the side of it. The last three numbers (or letters) denote characteristics of the chain.
Typically a chainsaw with a shorter bar around 14” and smaller is enough for property maintenance, trimming, pruning, and cutting down broken tree limbs. On the other hand, cutting down small trees, thick branches, and cleaning up storm damage will need a longer bar around 16”-20” to make the job easier and safer.

Most serial numbers are stamped in the motor housing or crankcase to the left or right of the muffler looking down from the top on a flat surface. They will in most cases be 9 digits long and begin with the number 1, 2 or 5.
NO, outboard two stroke motor oil designed for water cooled engines does not provide the needed protection or lubrication for two stroke air cooled engines.
These bar adapters allows you to run 12mm Stihl mount chainsaw bars on many Husqvarna chainsaws. Great for those operators who run both brands of saws, because you only need one type of bar now, one with a 12mm Stihl mount.
STIHL Duromatic E
Duromatic E guide bars are extremely rugged. They are made from solid, extremely strong steel.

Running a 2-cycle with the wrong fuel to oil mixture can cause severe damage to your engine. Running the machine without any oil mixed in the fuel can cause severe damage to your equipment within just minutes. This damage is generally very costly to repair and is usually irreparable.
Mixing ratios
For a mixing ratio of 1 : 50 you need 5 litres of petrol and 0.10 litres (100cm³) of STIHL two-stroke oil.
40 to 1 ratio
This equals 25mls of two stroke oil to 1 litre of petrol.
Step 1: You`ll need STIHL 2-Stroke oil, an empty and clean fuel can and fresh unleaded fuel from a reputable petrol station. Step 2: Mix at 50:1 (20mls oil per 1L fuel) when you`re using STIHL 2-Stroke oil.
100:1 – Mix
50ml of oil per 5ltrs of fuel.
Recommended by Yamaha and Suzuki for most of their small two stroke engines up to about 30hp, this ratio requires the least amount of TCW3 two stroke oil. The result of using this ratio (less oil) is reduced spark plug fouling and less smoke.
